Travelling People / Re: ingy Francis Boswell
« on: Wednesday 08 November 17 07:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Angio

Ingy was my Mother's first cousin. Her Father, Johnny Othea Boswell was her aunt Rhodie's sister.
We have a photo of Ingy and a brother who might have been called Edicar after his dad.

Lavina Boswell was my great grandad. I have a photo of him too.
He was named after his grandad, Salvaino.
Eric Trudgill has produced a pamphlet on the whole family.

Mom told us that when duckering. I.e. Fortune telling, Rhoda would ask that the client bring in a white shirt for luck.
It was because Uncle Edicar liked a white shirt.

The family also used the names boss, and Sherrif.

Hope this helps.

Vince

It might be worth contacting the adoptions department at the GRO and ask them how to access her file if you don't have any/much luck locally.

There has been a recent change in the law for relatives of deceased adoptees

Your friend can also access her mother's adoption file, the law was changed to allow that a few years ago.

Speak to the adoption services team of her local council in the first instance for advice on the process.

thank you so much for that she wasnt aware of that ... amazing news x

Is this your friend's own adoption? If yes she can access her own adoption file. If it is not is the person still living? If they are I thought Roots Chat had a no living person policy.

No she isnt living it is my friends Mother who was adopted and it was never talked about we have only come across the papers after her death and no other clues

thanks

If you knew the birth name you can get a copy of the original birth certificate, however while it will have adopted written on it, it doesn't have the name of the adoptive parents

Thats the problem we dont know the original name thanks i will keep trying other sources it is my friends mother who was adopted

thanks

Regarding the 1939 search, I have a subscription so no extra cost for me to look.
If you are searching for Sydney & Florence, can I suggest you search for Sydney Knight-Fruit salesman- Sussex as his middle initial is mistranscribed and you could waste a credit.

Thank you that's great information

Hello all..

I am helping my friend with her tree and we have the following information ...

From the adoption certificate in 1946

Entry number 44282
Date of entry  25/10/1946
Name of adopted child J M Although deceased, amended by moderator due to nature of topic
Sex female
Date of birth 3rd July 1942
Name and surname of adopted family
Sydney Herbert knight fruit salesman
And Florence's Mary his wife both of 18 Pelham road Worthing Sussex (married 1939 she is nee gosden)

Adoption order granted on the 27th September 1946 at Worthing juvenile court...

Looking at what I know there are original Birth certificates and and amended birth certificates and as I understand the original was sealed after adoption never to be seen ....

Is there any way I can find anything out any other information??

We have the adoption certificate with the information listed above ...

I am not home at the moment and need to check the 1939 list I have credits for this all so please don't use credits up xxx thanks

Angie
