so we have a Shea in the vicinity
My evidence of King's is no more than that ever so reliable "family tradition."
Though to be fair, I am finding them more reliable than I would have expected.

so Needham could be Leedham?

There are many of both names in census lists.
Perhaps they were interchangable!

Thanks.

Ricky:

According to IGI, John & Sarah had a son German bapt in 1827.
Unusual as it is, it was a common family name for the Kirk Ireton Deans.

yes, German's father was David who was also a labourer.
(As confirmation, his death certificate also lists David.)

Ricky:

The marriage certificate has arrived.
Thomas Needham was a labourer.
German & Elizabeth were living in Windley at the time of their marriage in Duffield.
This was wirtnessed by Millicent Needham & Joseph Lee, if those names help.

Ricky:

Thanks for the effort, ... but that is the wrong German D.
The one I am looking for had parents David & Mary whom I have found in KI in 1841 census.

It seems that German was a common-ish first name amongst that family.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Dean/ Needham in 1841

Hello everyone.

I am researching some of my great^3-grandparents:
German Dean b c.1821 (Kirk Ireton) and Elizabeth nee Needham b c.1823.
I have found them -- married -- in the 1851 census using
the Wirksworth records available at http://www.wirksworth.org.uk/CENSUS.htm
(and subsequently) but cannot find either of them in 1841.
I was wondering whether anyone can help with this.

Incidentally, does anyone know the background of the first-name 'German'?
