Mayo / Re: decipher 1851 Irish Census for Mayo
« on: Thursday 14 March 24 19:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

So a couple of years have passed since my original post around the 1851 census query. I now understand the census search forms a little better and know that it was done for a person to apply for a pension if you were 70 years of age or older. You had to prove who you were and where your parents were living in 1841 & 1851. The person that was applying on the attached search was a Pat Maye who gives his address as Bunninadden, but I cant find any trace of him or a death for him? Can anyone help once again please.

Many thanks

Sorry dont know how to link.

The advert is in Sligo Newspaper, 13th Feb 1956 its only a small notice.Mullaney and Gormley Sales.
3 Ton of very best quality Ryegrass Hay for sale by public auction for Michael Tivenan Lugdoon Doocastle.

This is the only only mention of the surname i can find.

Can anyone help with the link or upload the newspaper clip please? I have looked but cannot locate it

The place of death is given as Lugdoon, which is in Doocastle i expect its the same place as on the Census as no Lugdoon Townland shown in 1901-1911. he died a single man aged 85yrs. In 1956 a Michael Tivnan of Lugdoon advertised for sale an amount of Hay, this is most likely his brother, i cant locate a death for him. There is no death notice for Batty in Newspaper  and as the death informant is noted as a neighbour who buried him its unlikely he had family left in the area. There will be no roads or farm names, if you were contacting people even today you would just address to name, Lugdoon, Doocastle, Ballymote Co Mayo.

Michael Tivnan was his brother born 1887. Where have you seen the advertisement and can you post a link please? I assume the newspaper advert has contact details at the time? Thanks for the info really do appreciate it

Yes just had a look and confirm there is nothing there. I was after the actual address of the farm that Batty was at. Is there any other way that I could search for this please?

Is there a way that I can see if Probate or a will was left by Bartholowew Tivnan please? I ask this because I want to find out where Batty was living as a farmer at that time.

Batty or Bartholomew Tivnan was I know still alive in 1943 because I have the paperwork for him receiving his brother James estate. But, I cannot find Batty's death in Ireland. I know from the solicitors letter that he was in 1943 a farmer in Doocastle, but his death or farm he owned or any other info is proving difficult to find. Can anyone help please?

Good evening,
I have James May only on the UK Census of 1881, 1891, 1901, 1911 & 1921 not on any Irish Census. He did marry in 1875 in Sheffield, UK and his Fathers occupation is "Farm Labourer"
Hope that helps but happy to elaborate if required
Regards

I am researching my G G Grandfather James May b 1848 in Bunannadden.

I know this because on the 1921 UK Census it tells so. I also know that James's father was Patrick May and was deceased in 1875 but I dont know the year he died.

I cannot find a baptism or birth certificate that would give me James mothers forename and maiden name.

Can anyone help me please?

Do you have James May on other censuses? If so, can you give details please.

Did James marry? If so, do you have his marriage certificate giving details of his
father Patrick’s occupation
