I tried scanning this photo but it came out horribly pixelated and I’m not sure why, so I sure my phone to take this and it came out a lot better than the scan. I’m trying to find out what the patch on his shoulder could be, I have been scrolling through google image and so far I’ve come up with nothing, I’d be grateful for any help  :)

Could anyone date this photo please? Sorry I haven’t had a chance to scan so this is the best I could get, the photo was found when clearing out my grandads house and I am unsure who the man is so I’m hoping a date might help a little.

Does anyone think this lady could be in her Mid 30s?
The person I think it is was born October 1875 and died in 1910. I’m wondering if it is as I have a photo of said person and this one seems a spitting image of the person in the other photo but can’t tell if she is to old.

I have absolutely no idea if it’s a wig I personally think it does look like one. Maybe it was just for the photos purpose.  :-\

Maybe he could have been registered as James, I didn’t even think to look as first name variation. I did look as second name and mother’s maiden name variation. Totally forgot about first names. Thank you both for your help :)
