Hello Laurence
My family tree dates back to 1535 when the name was spelled Gyttyns but it later changed to Gittins.
Our tree begins in Hawarden,  Flintshire which is next Cheshire. I believe some of the Gittins may have worked in a copper mine in Avoca, Co. Wicklow but that information is sketchy. My great grandfather William Gittins was born in Flintshire but lived in Cheshire, his wife was Ann Jane McCullough. Their son Edward was my grandfather and his second wife Jane Lidderdale was my grand
mother. They raised a family of seven boys and a girl in Preston, Lancashire. Your welcome to access my family tree.
Regards, Ken Gittins

You will find all of Ireland's parish names on the "Ireland Reaching Out" website. There are eighty in Antrim but I can't decipher the name. I have been researching my great-grandmother's birthplace in Co. Sligo but she may have been born elsewhere. Ken Gittins

For anyone with old photos but lacking location you could try the Francis Frith site, they have a lot post card style photos of places from yesteryear. You may find photos of buildings that no longer exist.

Yes, Edward would have been about 72 when he and Lavinia got married. He was born in 1869 and died in 1949 to the best of my knowledge. I never met my grandfather as we lived in Hendon, N.W.London. It wasn't till the 50's I went with my parents to Preston and met many uncles, aunts & cousins. My father had six brothers and one sister. - Ken Gittins

Hello Carole Thank you for your speedy reply, I'm new to RootsChat.Com so I need to learn how to trace ancestors. Do you have some interest in the Gittins ancestry ? I knew all of Edward and Jenny's children as they were brothers (6) and sister (1) of my dad, Joseph Stanley. Also there were two children who died in infancy. Jenny died in 1925 and Edward married for the third time
a women named Lavinia. Ken Gittins

My grandfather Edward Gittins b.1869 in Seacombe, Cheshire and Emma Billington b.1867
Christened in Bamber Bridge,Lancashire had three children but then Emma died in surgery
I believe. Edward later married my grand-mother Jane Lidderdale. I'm researching the descendants of Edward and Emma. I believe their children were born in Preston, Lancashire,
a boy and two girls.
My second cousin was working on the family tree but now I've lost contact with her, can't reach her by e-mail or phone. Ken Gittins, Ontario, Canada.

In my family tree there is a Sarah Gittins b. 1836 in Hawarden, Flintshire and her parents were Edward Gittins b. 1812 & Mary Ann Price b. 1818 who were married on 26 th. Dec. 1836 in Mold, Flintshire.. Sarah was the sister of my great grandfather William Gittins b.1844 in Hawarden, Flintshire.  They had several siblings 3 sisters & 2 brothers. I don't have information about Sarah's husband or children. I trust this is useful information, Ken Gittins
