Hi - Yes, in 1892 Matilda and Thomas Lees appear in a Divorce Court index and we found Matilda's petition for divorce.  The reasons for the divorce are "adultery coupled with cruelty toward petitioner".  You are right about divorce being unusual pre 1930's so very unusual to come across a Divorce during this period?

Many thanks - yes, looks like the right track.  In my limited research, Matilda sounded like a really resourceful woman as she married my great-great grandfather Thomas Bowring Jnr who was a belligerent drunk and acted out violently - he ended up in Shrewsbury prison.  They divorced and she had to fend for herself and her son - probably better off without Thomas - by renting space at the market and selling fruit etc. I would love to get to know more about her - any ideas on how I can fill in the gaps?  Regards Laura

Wow thanks Claire - I wondered why there was such an age difference between children and a second marriage makes sense.  Now you have provided proof.  Thanks so much for your help!  It's like putting puzzle pieces together to make a full and completed picture.  An eye for detail helps, I guess.  Also ... I don't have photos or images of my ancestors - any idea as to where to look for this type of documentation?  Regards Laura

I am looking for any information on my predecessor Robert Bowring b 1791 "not Shropshire", so Staffordshire?  He was a fishmonger and married Mary or Margaret (surname?).  They had 2 sons: 1. Thomas Bowring Snr who was also a fishmonger b 1821 Newport who married Mary Bentley in July/Aug/Sep 1841 Wellington, Shropshire.  2. The other son was John Bowring b 1836.  Any info on these family members would be appreciated.

I am looking for more information on the Lees side of my family tree, particularly Matilda Lees (fruiterer, milliner) born 1852 Stafford (I think).  She married Thomas Bowring Jnr (fishmonger)  on 14 August 1877 St Mary Stafford.  Their son was Francis Thomas William Bowring b 25 Sep 1881 Stafford.  Matilda's father was Francis Lees Jnr a publican at the Lichfield Arms 1876-1890.  He married Elizabeth Simpson b 1827.  Any info or pics on any of these would be greatly appreciated.
