Aberdeenshire / Re: Laing's Hotel, Peterhead
« on: Monday 06 August 18 23:09 BST (UK)  »
Funnily enough some of my ancestors - Fanny Kelman (b 1886) and George Smith Kelman (b 1888) were both registered as being born in the Laings Hotel in Peterhead as per their birth certificates - I have often seen some of my ancestors as being married in a Hotel in Aberdeenshire, but until the Kelman's never saw any that were born in the Hotel.

It may also interest you to know that in Edinburgh in the Corstorphine Hill Cemetery there i a Peter Carrick born 1870 in Langholm, Dumfries & Gallway, Scotland and died 29 Jul 1940 in City of Edinburgh. ALSO his wife
Beatrice Scott Carrick (not sure if Scott is her middle name or maiden name as us Scots tend to use our grandmothers maiden name as middle names yet the American use the maiden name as a middle name)
born 27 Apr 1876 Wilton, Scottish Borders, Scotland and died 23 Jul 1963 Currie, City of Edinburgh, Scotland
the info is also on findagrave - just thought I would add a reply about this as the surnames match and it may help someone

World War Two / Re: Is it worth applying for WW2 records?

ADDICTIVE - I say, I go to the registry office in Edinburgh at least once a month tae print out all the certificates for the info I locate online - I find that a great sense of achievement when I find a family member that has been difficult tae find and often it is a spelling error that has been the culprit of lengthy searches, also once printed I scan the certificate intae my laptop so I can upload it tae my tree on Ancestry so others can benefit from my searches.

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Re: Uphall Cemetery Maps
« on: Thursday 01 June 17 16:14 BST (UK)  »
Alex,
My great grandparents are also buried in Uphall and I go there every few months tae pay my respects, I have a map of the cemetary so I will find it easily enough for you, I also have the CD of the burials, my email address is maggied52@gmail.com, if you send me an email, I will take a photo of the headstone or area if no headstone (alas my ancestor has no stone but I am going tae rectify that) I am a Scot but lived in Oz fer 55 years and my husband is a Kiwi so I understand the problem of being so far away.
I notice that his name is spellt as Millar on the CD
Regards
Maggie Davidson
