Hi Paul
Just read your message again.
I also have Mary Ann's death certificate.(1917)
When my grandmother's family, the Nugents left Tambellup, she stayed behind in a Nursing Home, her daughter Eliza (Dolly) had married well in Albany.

Hi Paulrp Davies 51 and Trish
If it is an unmarked grave it may well be a mis-transcription of William for Wyndham. The age and the year of death fits.
I think the other Frederick William may have been his son by his first wife Elizabeth Leigh.

Paul are you a descendent of Mary Ann McEvoy (Ford) or Elizabeth Leigh?

My Grandmother kept a photo of her Granny (Briggs).

If you would like a copy please let me know.

Australia / Re: Henry SMITH and Jane TELFORD Family of South Australia

Hi
I am researching Mary Ann Telford age 27, who migrated to SA on the Taymouth Castle in 1854 ( with her husband John Nugent also 27, both are listed as English though our family believes she was Irish from Kildare.
I noticed there was a Jane Telford age 17 also from England, on the same ship. They may have been sisters. Even though she would have been separated with the single women a sister would be likely travelling on the same ship.
On SABDM there are a few Telfords.
You can find this on the Ships List.
Mary Ann was my gt gt grandmother and I have found cousins in the US, but I am having trouble working out the exact connection. The mention a George Telford.
If you have done your DNA we might be able to work it out.

Hi Frederick William Briggs was my GG Grandfather, born Hawkhill, Lesbury Northumberland.Born 1828. Father Robert Briggs. For some reason everyone said he was born in 'Wessex'. The Northumberland family had family names like Hamilton which was the second name for one of his boys. Married first to Elizabeth Leigh, 4 children, then to Mary Ann Ford, a widow nee McEvoy in Burra SA. They had 7 or 8. It would be interesting to see if its the same man. Maria

Hi Maggie,
Do you have access to roots Ireland?
I had 50 free searches when it was new. I found lots of relatives on it.
It has transcriptions from parish registers from most counties.
But now it costs.

Hi Maggie Moon, I don't know whether this will help. My great grandfather was Thomas Butler born 1866 at a farm called 'Blackstairs' Hollyford Ireland. When I googled it, I discovered that a Thomas Butler still lives there so it might well be a family name. ( Some of my relatives even visited the family). I also found some graves for Butlers nearby in the neighbouring county. It seems they have farmed there for a long time and produced lots of children who emigrated.
Do you have any more family names?

Hi, From memory
Mary  Ford widow, father Thomas, F W Briggs, labourer, father Robert, married in a private house in Copurhouse, January 19th 1861,
She married John Ford, 31st May 1858 in London.
My Gt grandmother was Charlotte and I have her birthdate as 12th February 1874. (Probably Winnie)
I linked up with  the Murphy family on ancestry who are descended from an unregistered sister Emily born about 1865.
Looking at my notes I'm still not convinced about the deathdate. I have a note next to it which says 65 yr old buried in the Catholic section of West Terrace Cemetery Adelaide. I don't think the catholic bit is likely at that time.  Anyway love to hear anything more.

Hi I'm new to this chat room. I have been looking for Frederick William's death for a long time. ( He is my g-g-grandfather. Your info confirms everything I have found). My Aunt went to Melrose and told me that she had found his burial there, but I've never been able to confirm it. The only contradiction to your date is that he was described as the late F. W., when his daughter Eliza or 'Dolly"married Robert Trail Muir in Albany, in 1902. But it might be explained if he had deserted the family. He is in the SA police Gazette for desertion around the time of her birth. (They gave a desription '5ft9" sandy hair and beard slight build I think)  I couldn't find a marriage record for Elizabeth and FW, but they had a daughter Frances Ann in Adelaide in 1851  3/212. She married a Williams around 1870. I have a photocopy of the marriage certificate of Mary Ann Ford nee Mc Evoy and FW 1861. My grandmother told me stories about Mary Ann and we have her photo. I also found that Hawkhill is now a B & B. You can see it on google streetview. Love to hear anything more.
