Thank you so much for all this information which I will pass on to my daughter-in-law's father; his mother was the daughter of George's sister Charlotte, he's just started researching his family and I'm trying to help him as, in particular, he wants to visit relevant locations. Incidentally George's birth was registered with his surname spelt as Oakhill.
The Okills aren't really anything to do with me directly but I did draw up a basic tree for them using the GRO Indexes and Familysearch; I don't have subscriptions to any of the genealogy websites at present. George had nine sisters and I'm told that the story of him vanishing has remained constant through more recent generations. Charlotte's grand daughter, who lives in Australia, has looked for George without success and has written an account of her research which may be read at

So ShaunJ; glencare; Jool; Girl Guide and MonicaL thank you all very much indeed for taking time to find all this information, I'm sure George's relatives will be more than grateful for, and very surprised by, all the true facts you have so kindly found for them.
