Hi Chris
This is absolutely fantastic and many thanks indeed for sending me so much information. We were never sure about the family story but now it is confirmed.
Thomas is buried in the grave in the churchyard of Reigate Parish church together with his parents and a sister who died as a baby.
He was the oldest son and it must have been a great blow to his mother when he was killed as she had been widowed quite young and left with 6 young children to raise.

I am not sure what you mean by a PM - can you explain as I would love to be able to access the original reports.
Many thanks again

Surrey / Death from a cycling accident
« on: Monday 09 January 12 09:17 GMT (UK)  »
There was story in my family that my grandfather's brother died after an accident in a cycling race. His death certificate gives the following information:
Thomas Henry Marchant, age 29, died in Norwood Cottage Hospital, Upper Norwood, on 17 June 1899 from head injuries caused by an accidental fall from a bicycle. His occupation is given as a "Cycle manufacturer of Penge".

There was an inquest but I have been told that coroner's reports are no longer available.

Can anyone  advise me as to where I might possibly find further information as I would love to know if he was involved in cycle racing.
Many thanks

Friends of my parents, whom we called aunt and uncle, lived in Marion Road during and after the war and my aunt was badly injured when the house was bombed. Presumably this was the attack to which you refer.
I remember visiting them there after the war so I assume the houses were repaired.
We always knew it as Marion Road and my parents always referred to it as such and I thought it was called that when they lived there during the war so it is strange that it had another name.

Hi
I have only just seen this correspondence and wonder if anyone can help me.
I have been trying to find the record of the birth of my 2xgreat-grandfather in 1816/1817 which, I believe happened while his father was stationed in Ireland. I have found nothing in the regimetal muster rolls at Kew and a researcher in Ireland was unable to find anything in the Irish records. When his father was discharged it was recorded on the certificate that money was paid to transport him, his wife and two children home but, unfortunately, no names were given.
If anyone can give me further advice about where I might  look I would be very grateful.

Apologies for the delay in replying but I have had problems accessing the internet.
I am sure this is the Harriet Higgins I was looking for as the information I had, mainly that she was baptised in Reigate in August 1823, fits with the ages etc in the information you have been able to give me which I am very pleased to have.
Many thanks indeed for all this.

Surrey / Harriet Higgins - Croydon

Hi
I should be very grateful for any information about the marriage of a Harriet Higgins in Croydon between March and June 1853.
She was the sister of my 2x great-grandfather, would have been about 30 years old and a widow.
Many thanks

Hi Valda
Many thanks for this - obviously it  confused me because both his wives were called Eleanor.
