Hi, hope I'm in the right place. I'm looking for information about the South Shields union workhouse in harton in 1891. My great grandfather is listed as a scholar and I wondered how that worked.

Hi, I was just reading an older post from someone looking for Turn Coat Row Cottages which I found helpful and will dig out some old maps but I'm also looking for a street name from the 1871 census that looks like West Holborn if Im reading the very ornate writing correctly. It seems to be a street that has a fair few shops and many pubs amongst them The White Swan, The Royal Oak, The Bay Horse and what is possibly The Seamans or Seafarers Arms, also a ? Hotel with an odd name The Writers Slates Hotel???? but think am probably misinterpreting that one.
Any help would be appreciated.
