Thanks for that information Lud, and I will make a point of going to the Heritage Centre to investigate.

Best,
Alex

Hi Sage,

Unfortunately I have no further information on Jeanie at the moment.  When time allows I will try to crack on with some further investigation.  I did read Lodger's earlier postings on the McFarlanes, very interesting indeed.  As well as Robert, Agnes had siblings Ann, George, William, John and James.

I think I'll leave it until spring to venture into Cambusnethan cemetery.  Still a bit chilly for prolonged lingering, snow is falling here in Hamilton as I write  :)

I've undertaken a fair amount of research on the names listed on my initial post.  I visited Kircubbin, NI last year to see the burial place of Andrew Close, my 4th GGF, the McGhies trace back to there. As well as research on the McGhie side, I've traced back the others sides of my family, the Robertsons (Wishaw), Fordyces (Carluke) and Byrnes (Donegal).

Best,
Alex

1856, buried at graveyard of Trinity Church of Ireland, Kircubbin.  Farm labourer.

Hi Sage, many thanks for your response and for the kind welcome.  Thanks also for the burial information, that's very helpful indeed.  I'm fairly closeby and will pay a visit to the cemetery at some point, though as you mention it's unlikely that the headstones remain.

My great grandfather James McCreaddie McGhie, was born on 11 Jan 1881 at 134 Stewarton Street, Wishaw.  He was the illegitimate son of Andrew McGhie and Jean McFarlane, according to his BC and DC of 1959.  Jean married George McCreaddie on 3 Sept 1883 and he became James's adoptive father. My understanding from family is that James was a real gentleman and a Trade Union spokesman for miners.

Andrew McGhie married Janet Love on 23 June 1882 and had James's half sister Jeanie (most likely along with the other children you mention). They lived at Brown's Lane, off Stewarton Street in Wishaw in 1901.

Thanks also for the burial information for Agnes Falconer (McFarlane) who was Jane's mother.  Agnes's story is a tragic one as she lost three children in infancy, bore a stillborn child and died at a very young age (34) of smallpox contracted during childbirth.  It appears she had a chaotic and difficult life.

Best Regards,
Alex

Hi all,

I am a newbie here though I've been looking into my ancestry for some time now.

I am seeking information on the people below, some of whom I believe may be buried in Cambusnethan graveyard in Wishaw.  Grateful for any known information on any of these people and especially keen to know if any headstones exist from some of the older burials.

James McCreaddie McGhie  D 6 Jun 1959 (Law)
Jane Halben Johnston McGhie  D 12 Feb 1970 (Carluke)

Andrew McGhie (James’s father)  D 2 FEB 1909 (Wishaw)
Jane McFarlane (James’s mother)  D 3 JAN 1930 (Law)
George McCreaddie (James’s adopted father)  D: 3 SEP 1934 (Law)

James McGhie (Andrew's father) D: 8 JULY 1890 (Cambusnethan).
Jane Close  (Andrew’s mother)  D. 5 JUN 1903 (Cambusnethan)
William McFarlane D 16 DEC 1919 Wishaw (Jane M's foster father).  I believe from another thread that he is buried in Cambusnethan but that no headstone has survived for the plot.
Agnes McFarlane (Jane M's mother) D 4 APR 1874 (Wishaw).  I believe she may also be buried in the old churchyard, Cambusnethan. Especially keen to trace this plot.

William McFarlane (Agnes’s father).  D 9 JUL 1892 (Wishaw).  I believe he was also buried in Cambusnethan and that no headstone survived for this plot.
Jane (Jean) Kay (Agnes’s mother)  D 9 JUL 1888 (Wishaw)

Grateful for any help or information on any of these people.

Warmest Regards,
Alex McGhie
