The Common Room / Re: Hannah Collins born Kidderminster c1793
« on: Saturday 06 January 18 10:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Ciderdrinker,

Many thanks for your kind message. Yes I agree, I found this family but as I couldn't find a Hannah Collins on the register, I put them to one side and searched for any other Collins family in the Kidderminster area that may have a Hannah from that time.

It could still be the family I'm looking for if for some reason Sarah changed her name to Hannah but this is unlikely I know, maybe Hannah was born out of wedlock prior to 1793? Was Sarah a twin? I'll have to check.

I really appreciate your help. many thanks.
Steve

The Common Room / Hannah Collins born Kidderminster c1793

I'm searching for Hannah Collins born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire (or nearby) c1793.
I believe that she's my 4th great grandmother.

She had a relative called Elizabeth Collins, (possibly her sister), as a witness when she married William Woodward in Aston juxta Birmingham, Warwickshire in 1825.

William was a widower but Hannah is on the marriage entry as a spinster so was around 31 years old when she married for the first time. William Woodward was about the same age and also born outside of Birmingham/Warwickshire area (location as yet unknown) and died in Erdington (now part of Birmingham) before the 1851 census was taken.

Any parish register information (e.g baptism or Collins family members) for Kidderminster would be greatly appreciated. I'll also share any information I already have with interested parties.

Many thanks.
Steve

This is what I've found so far.

Ann Hunt born c1825. (my 4th great aunt). appears on the 1841 census in Water Newton (Huntingdonshire), aged 15 (age possibly rounded down) with her parents James & Sarah Hunt.

Ann marries Thomas Middleton in 1843 in the district of Peterborough, baptised at Yaxley on 30th April 1815 son of William & Sarah Middleton. They had 5 children as far as I've ascertained;

1. Sarah Ann born 1852 in Portsea, Hampshire. Died aged 17 in 1869. Portsea.

2. Emma Sophia born 1854. Portsea.
Marries George Culpin in 1884 near Peterborough, Northamptonshire.
Probably at Castor where George Culpin was born.

3. John, born c1857. Portsea. (Not much else on him at the moment).
Appears on the 1861 census at Portsea with family, aged 4.

4. Harriett or Sophia Harriet. born 1860. Portsea.
Appears on 1861 & 1871 census at Portsea with family.

5. Elizabeth, born 1863, Portsea Island.
Appears on 1871 census with father and new wife Jemima (Nee Coombes) and sister Harriett     Middleton.

Ann Middleton (Nee Hunt) dies in Portsea, near Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1865.

Thomas Middleton's death in 1871 at the age of 62 takes his birth date back to 1809. Only the 1871 census gives his true age, all previous census's are incorrect regarding his age.

Thomas remarries in Portsea in 1866 to Jemima Coombes, she's 32 years old at the time, he's 25 years her senior. Jemima and Thomas have no children. She dies in 1924 aged 89 near Portsmouth having never remarried.

Hope this helps.

George Hunt born in Water Newton, Huntingdonshire in 1813 was my 3rd Great grandfather and I'm researching this family in general. Will also be looking into George Hunts' siblings including sister Ann Hunt's marriage to Thomas Middleton and their children.

Will let you know what I find in due course.
