Armagh / Re: Co. Armagh, Tyrone Ditches/Poyntzpass, Taggart/Guy

John Edward Guy was an RIC constable in Poyntzpass (in the parish of Ballymore). He was born 1859 and died 1915.

RIC policy was to not post staff to the county where they were born (or where their wife was born). If John served in Poyntzpass, it's unlikely he came from that county. Have you checked his RIC record?

That's a good point. No, I didn't look at the RIC records.

The Poyntzpass & District Local History Society covers Drumbanager and surrounding townlands too.

Correct.

Also, there was a famine in the first half of the 18th century, but not in the second half.

The penal laws were being relaxed, giving Catholics and Presbyterians more rights but which did not go down well with the Protestants.

The british army were busy in the United States, so various local armies were formed (called Volunteers) in fear of an invasion by France.

The Newry to Portadown canal was opened in the 1740's which brought new trade to many area.
