There are a couple of very kind people on here who do visit the Nottingham archives, hopefully  they  will see this and  be able to help. He could have been in the hospital part of the workhouse, it was not purely for paupers. My great uncle died in Southwell workhouse of diptheria.

There is a John Ryder and wife Emma baptising children in St Mary Nottingham
1850 Ann, 1852 George, 1855 Emma and 1870 Emma. Fathers occupation Smith for 2 children and Engineer/ Engine fitter for the other 2.

Marriage same church
