Carmarthenshire / Re: Thomas Thomas one time schoolmaster of Kidwelly
« on: Monday 02 February 09 16:37 GMT (UK)  »
This is my second attempt to post

Not my family tree, but a SIL's.  Who has curly hair.

I have information about the Hannas of Birkenhead via Ireland but likely it is information you have already.   Two daughters and a son born about 1896.  Father was a wholesale ironmonger/jeweller.

I have a suggested name for Thomas Thomas' parents of David Thomas and Mary Lloyd.  But I would like to know definite BMD for him.  And his wife, mother of Mary Jane and Sarah A.

Mary Jane died in Licking County Ohio in 1925 and was born in Carmathenshire maybe.  Year uncertain.  Again far too many Mary Jane Thomas's to pin her down even.   Her death certificate gives credence to an 1862.  But death certificates are not always accurate.

We might crack this yet.   But thank you for assuring me I am not alone in my madness of trying to trace a Thomas Thomas in late C19 Wales.  I am pretty certain about Kidwelly though.  And now, thanks to you I am more certain.

Thanks again.

Excellent news.   I had nearly given up on Thomas Thomas and his wife Mary.  They are not an uncommon names.

And there are a few in Kidwelly in the late c19 and early c20.

I would ideally like to know birth, marriage and death details for the above John and Mary.  And Mary's maiden name.

I am led to believe  that Thomas the schoolmaster had a brother Daniel who ran a couple of successful emporiums in Aberystwyth in the late c19 and early c20.  Daniel became mayor of Aber in 1911, about the time the National Library of Wales was established.

Another relation perhaps a brother of Thomas emigrated to Ohio and it was there where Mary Jane Thomas Northey emigrated with her family to 1910. Mary Jane might be a bit of  a railway siding for you ,but if you like genealogical railway sidings, I can help a bit more here.

thanks again for getting my morning off to such a great start!

Cheshire / HANNA family Birkenhead early C20

Is anyone interested in a Hanna family of Birkenhead.

Welsh born Sarah A Hanna aged 31 in 1901 census wife to Irish born John A  aged 40 who was a jeweller
Their children were  eight year old Gertrude born in Ireland , 10 year old Mary W J born Ireland  and two year old Gerald  A F  born in cheshire.

I am especially interested in tying the relationship of the mother to a schoolmaster in Kidwelly.

Thanks for any help.

Dear Both

Thanks for your help and for giving me another possible steer.  I know how frustrating "Mary Jane" can be to try to find, but the point about the middle names is certainly apt and I will look on free bmd.   I hope there are not as many Ebenezers as there seem to be "Mary Janes".

The census link is also helpful - and helps link the mayor to his father.  I wish I understood the place names rather better and was sure that transcriptions were accurate.  I will try to track down the marriage certificate.

Thanks again for your time and for reminding me of some of the more obvious place.  Often in frustration over the surname Thomas the obvious gets overlooked.

On the more general subject of Welsh mayors - were they political appointments, mercantile appointments, elected?

Thank you - that was a great help and very kind of you to answer so promptly.    Your signposting has certainly added a few more roads for me to travel - or railway sidings to get stuck in - but I often find those sidings great be great fun.

Thanks again

Berwickshire / REDFORD/GRAY (Duns)

Is anyone researching the family of Margaret Redford and William Gray, baker of Duns.  They married in Duns 1802 and the union produced a number of children including Jean (born 1819) , Elizabeth (1814), Dinah, Christian (1812), Burdass (sp?), and Cordelia (born 1822).

Cordelia married a William Dewar, but I have no idea what happened to the others nor indeed parents of said Margaret and William, one time baker of Duns.

Thanks

Dear Group

Dear Community

I am interested in finding out information about  Daniel Thomas draper of Little or possibly Great Darkgate Street Aberystwyth who became mayor of "Aber" in 1910-11 - just before famed royal visit.   He was born about 1855 in Langutto (sp?)

He was married to London born wife Elizabeth with whom he had  a large family (all Aberystwyth born) daughters Mary Jane (born about 1882) Edith S (born about 1883) Gwen (born about 1899) , Nellie, Margaret L and Elizabeth and sons Ebenezer R (born about 1885) , Evan (born about 1890)  and Edward D (born about 1896)

Is anyone researching this family?

Thanks

Carmarthenshire / Thomas Thomas one time schoolmaster of Kidwelly

Dear Community

I am interested in finding out information about  Thomas Thomas  born about 1825  LLANDYSILIO GOGO  in neighbouring Cardiganshire (and please I hope I have the spelling correct).   Thomas eventually  married a Mary (maiden surname unknown)   born  about 1831/32 in Tregaron (Caron).   I do not know the marriage date.

They moved to Kidwelly by 1871 and had children Mary Jane  (born abt 1866)  David A (born abt 1859)  Sarah A  (born about 1870 ) Margaret born about 1860 and another son James D G (born Kidwelly  1872)

Mary Jane married Robert Northey in Pontypridd in 1886

Son James DG was a postman in Kidwelly by the time of turn of twentieth century.

For several years Thomas Thomas was a school master and “time keeper” in Kidwelly.  He was also apparently active in Wesleyan church affairs.

 Is anyone researching this family?

Thanks    Nequine

Dear Community

Interested in knowing anything about Mile End House, Peterhead functioning in 1916.   Was it a guest house, small hotel - somewhere to take the waters?

No idea of location or if it still exists.

Thanks for any help.
