Hi Biker, just to say I believe Allies also landed actually in September 1943.  That is when my granddad died on the beaches (?) of Salerno on the 9th Sept 1943 - he was with the 7th Bttn Oxford & Bucks Light infantry.

Thanks Little Nell

A bit confused....and after your expertise advice...

I went back onto freebmd website and in fact ended up finding a Thomas Phillips Hancock - Jun 1858.  I downloaded the actual document to check the GRO details are correct but it was not to clear if it was page 338 or 358 (2b is the vol) on the original.

I thought I would do a cross reference and see if it was on Ancestry.  Nothing is listed under the Q2 June 1858 vol 2b pg 338 or 358 district Portsea on Ancestry - which makes me more confused.  If it is on freebmd should it not be on Ancestry?  Is there another way of checking - without having to visit the Family Records Centre in London?
Kind regards
Tracy

Hi Siamese Girl  - have also sent you a PM

I was looking at past forums and came across this topic.  I too have TUTT & HODD in my family and just wondered in there was a connection.  Barbara Tutt ch 12 Jan 1768 Chailey married Richard Hodd who was a farmer/innkeeper.  They married in Nov 1794 in Chailey.  I'm descended from their marriage.

It would be good to hear from you if there is connection between our families.

Evening people

I have searched the usual freebmd website to find my ancester Thomas (Philip) Hancock.  I have found him on several census, his marriage in 1879 to Harriet Good but I cannot find his birth. (If indeed it was registered)

The different census make his birth year circa 1859 and stated that his was born in portsmouth/portsea.

Many thanks in advance.
