Hi
I have this family  :D Though I have Charles as dying at the age of 14years old?
I was sent Burial records for East Coker which states that 1829 Jan 25th Baker Charles age 14 of East Coker & the baptism 1815 Mar 26th Baker Charles son of John & Jane.
If you think I have it wrong I sorely appologise & would love to exchange info I have John Bakers parents as Matthew Baker & Sarah Stone (they are my 5th Great Grandparents)
Look forward to hearing from you soon
Kind Regards x

Dorset Lookup Requests / Re: Thorncombe parish look up request - Cook

Hi there
Thanks for your message  ;D
The James Cook I have married to Mary Hussey states in the following census's:
1841c: Born: Not of the parish
1851c: Born: Not Known
1871c: Born: Salisbury, Wiltshire
So I'm uncertain of where he came from!!!
Thank you anyway I'll have to do some more searching!!
There does appear to be two James Cooks of similar ages as there are Death registrations:
Dec 1872 age:83
Jun 1878 age: 88
both are Axminster district I suppose I will have to send for both to determine which one is mine!!
Kind Regards
Maria

Hi there
I am a decendant of James Cook & Mary Hussey, James was born abt 1793 though it states he is not of the parish, they married in 1816 in Thorncombe, he later states that he is from Salisbury in later census's.
If there is any connection please let me know will willingly exchange info
thank you

« on: Tuesday 16 January 07 20:14 GMT (UK)  »
I love these 'old cards' its just a shame some of them remain unnamed, it breaks my heart when I see the ones on ebay & theres no inscription on the back.
A distant cousin of my husband sent us one, we believe it may be my husbands Great Grandmother & a couple of his Great Aunts though nothing is conclusive.[
Though I will agree with the others regarding contact, my husbands father died when my husband was only 4years old. we weren't aware that there was a younger brother of his late father. When I question my mother in law she confirmed that there was but none of the family had had any contact with him. She had no real explaination as to why. So after a chat with hubby, we looked up the electrol role & thankfully there were only 3 people with that name & wrote to all 3, had a lovely letter from one to say sorry he wasn't him, then a day later had an email to say that we'd found them! & we've been in contact ever since & they have welcomed us with open arms~the despute was basically a naff sibling one.
So I say go for it you've got nothing to lose but alot to gain  ;D

goodluck

Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: Place:Somerton surname:Ashley

Yes I know  ;)
??? Mary Jane has a sister named Eliza who is with her parents in 1861, so I am assuming the Grandparents may have said her name in mistake, considering her mothers name is Elizabeth. The Pivotts family are actually the Pevit.
I thought the witnesses to their marriage may prove useful but it transpires it is a John & Hannah Lambert (I have found a marriage that looks possible Langport March 1840 John Lampert & Hannah Taylor . I had hoped that Hannah may have been vile's sister!  :-\)

Thanks for your query

Please can any one help? ::)

My 3rd Great grandfather is a VILE ASHLEY born:1818/1825 Somerton (obviously dates vary with census's & marriage cert)
who I have found in the 1861,1871,1881, & his death in 1889.

according to his marriage certificate in 1853 Somerton, his father is ROBERT ASHLEY who is a labourer

I was wondering if anyone would possibly try & locate a possible VILE & ROBERT in the 1841 & or 1851

and/or Somerton's Parish Records.

the only other confusing factor is that VILE's eldest daughter
(my 2nd Great Grandmother) MARY JANE ASHLEY b:1855 is on the 1861 census with her maternal Grandparents & states her birthplace as IRELAND (I lose her in 1871) then she gets married & in 1901 she states IRELAND as her birthplace, yet all her siblings have theirs as SOMERTON

Many thanks
Maria
