Here is a photo from my family album of Austen Maxwell Best standing next to my father in 1938/9 when they passed out from RAMC and joined the Indian Medical Service together.

Hello Spikey,

That's fine by me and why I posted it here when I discovered it with the story written on the back by my Mum.

Best wishes for 2021.

This is a photo from my mother's WW2 album. The one with her arm slipped through that of the very handsome looking Indian Pilot - not my Dad !!

World War Two / Re: WW2 medal strip Private in 1st Parachute Regiment

Thank you Max and Si,

Logic suggests that the second set of suggestions is more likely to be correct, but leaves some unanswered questions. I am hoping that this will sufficiently raise the curiosity of my friend to fork out for a copy of his late father's service record to get more details.

Compliments of the season and all the best for 2020.

It could indeed !! I was looking for some more technical phrase about what he did in the Paras but that is much more apposite to the task that was undertaken. Many thanks for your help.

Thank you Hanes Teuluor for this extra information. Comfortable indeed. His children and grandchildren had a great boost in their chances in life from his talents. The education he afforded them has changed many lives.

Ooh my word. That is remarkable sleuthing by Drosybont. Thank you so much for all that hard work. I am thinking that Domgay is a mis-spelling of Dolanog. My friend will be very pleased to hear all this about his great grandparent's brothers and their parents and maternal grandparents Richard (b. ca 1788)& Elizabeth Davies sometime at Sarnau. It is a delightful part of Wales that I have visited several times.
