Hi Dawn,

Thank you for that information, I had no idea that Ancestry.com was available  at local libraries.  I doubt if it is at Clifton, so may have to go into Nottingham which is more difficult as I normally use a mobility scooter, but I will see what is available.  Many thanks

Hi Valda,

Many, many thanks for all that new information, it certainly puts some flesh on the bones as it were.  Although I am descended from Albion Richard (s/o Henry and Elizabeth), it is still very interesting to know about Sarah CHASE and her family.  I did try to research them but as I could not find Sarah on the 1861 census, I assumed that she had died or remarried.  It was also good to know about her parents and her elder sister Hannah.

I find Family History absolutely fascinating, but as I do not travel anymore I miss out on a lot of the excitement.   Ancestry.com is out of my reach and my brain does not work so well as it used to these days !!  So it is more difficult to know how to find all these records.

Once again, my sincere thanks for all your hard work on my behalf.  It was certainly well worth waiting for.

Hi Valda,

Many thanks for the detailed e-mail just received.  There is too much to absorb at the moment and I have to go out soon, but I will try and register it all and reply to you properly tomorrow.  It is all very much appreciated.

Hi Dawn,

What a bit of a shock that was !!   Whether this is correct or not, is there an e-mail address that I can try and send the copies of the two marriage "certificates" to?  I am not very computer literate but can do bits.

In the meantime, the name of the Curate on the certificate is Chas. May Haddlebey, the witness was M. Hopwood and the Adjutant was A.T. Munro.  As you say though, Henry could have been lying to get a married man' allowance ??

They are possibly not actual certificates, but the notification in certificate form.  The second marriage is to Sarah Chase on13 July, 1836 at St. Mary's, Islington and Henry was described as a Widower.

Sincerely,
Pam

Hi Dawn,

Many thanks for the additional information.  Henry Snelling married Elizabeth Atlee on 27th January 1808 at St. John's, Wapping.  This is in his Army papers, also his second marriage to Sarah Chase.  Unless they all died, I cannot imagine that Henry and Elizabeth did not have any children for 6 years in those days.  There is also a 12 year gap between 1824 and 1836.  Elizabeth, I have a feeling, died in 1834/6.  As I have had several health problems over the past few years, it is some time since I researched for Henry's other children.  It will take me a while to find ALL my Snelling papers.

Hi Dawn,

1841   Henry/Sarah & Mary (5)    North Street, (St Luke's, Chelsea)    HO 107/687/4

Henry died 1848, so was not on 1851 Census.  I would imagine that Sarah would be, also Ernest Alfred, who would be 10 by 1851.

I have no idea how many children Henry/Elizabeth Atlee had (they were married 1808) and Elizabeth died 183?).  Ditto Henry/Sarah Chase were married 1836.  The only children of Henry/Sarah that I know are Mary  (b.c. 1836) and Ernest Alfred (b.c. 1841)
My biggest problem is Henry/Elizabeth's children between  1808 and Edmond William Thomas 1814 (as per your e-mail.)

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Hi Dawn,

Many, many thanks for the information received today re early Snelling baptisms.   I realise that a lot of the London area baptisms are lost, so I really appreciate you finding the ones you have.  Do you have any idea where else (which parishes) I may look  as I cannot travel these days.  Henry was stationed at Regents Park, Hyde Park and Windsor barracks during his career.  I also have a feeling that during his early career (he was only 12 when he joined up) that he travelled around the South Coast with an enlisting party.  My pockets are not very deep, so I need the easiest route if possible please.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Gratefully yours,
Pam

If anyone is looking in any of these, would you please keep an eye open for any SNELLING births to HENRY/ELIZABETH (nee ATLEE) 1808-36 or HENRY/SARAH (nee CHASE )1836-48  Henry was an Army musician (10th Hussars and Blues & Royals) and was posted around London and Windsor.  I have not found any children until Dec. 1815 (ALBION RICHARD bapt at Isleworth ,  (born Windsor),SUSANNA (1818  Isleworth); JAMES THOMAS (1820 Windsor); THOMAS (1822 cHELSEA sT. lUKE); ELLEN TAYLOR (1824 Windsor).  Then MARY (1836 St. Marylebone) and ERNEST ALFRED (1841 New Windsor).  I would love to fill in some of the obvious gaps.  Thank You.

Hi, I am searching for gaps in my SNELLING families.  Henry (bn 1788 Ospringe) and Elizabeth (nee ATLEE).  Married 1808, have not found children before Dec. 1815 (Albion Richard).  Henry was in 10th Hussars (musician) and moved around for several years.  Elizabeth died c. 1836 and there are other gaps after Ellen Taylor (bp April 1824 Windsor) until 1836.  If anyone can help, would be pleased to hear from them.
