The Common Room / Guardian School

A cousin has just searched for her great uncle and found him on the 1901 census of London as an Inmate at a Guardian school, he was aged 11. Could someone tell me what was a Guardian school? Would the lad have been an orphan or perhaps a petty thief?

Breconshire / Re: Gunter Family
« on: Saturday 21 March 09 14:31 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for my Gunter ancestors too.
From a family bible I have the birth of Ann Gunter July 1848.
I also have her marriage certificate to Samuel Williams 16th May 1871 Nantyglo MON, which puts her year of birth at 1847/48, her father's name on the certificate is William Gunter.
From the 1881/1891 census Ann was born in Llangattock BRE but I cannot find a Ann Gunter on the previous census with a father William Gunter. The only likely one is 1851 but her age on that would give a birth of 1841/42
Any help or comments gratefully received

I'll have to write and ask for a search I think as I don't know for sure where or when he was born.

you wouldn't know where I would need to write to? ;)

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / William Hamilton 1904
« on: Friday 21 July 06 14:48 BST (UK)  »
My sister-in-law is quite convinced that her father William Hamilton was born abt 1904 somewhere on Guernsey.
From his marriage certificate the age is about right, his father was Frederick Hamilton.
Her father never talked about his family so we have no informaton on his mother.
Any help will be gratefully received

Hi LucyEllen
