Berkshire / Re: Richard PIKE of Newbury

This might just be a case of some people mistakenly promoting an ancestor to a status that he didn't actually have.  Although there does appear to have been a Sir Richard Pike in the 1300s, I haven't found anything to confirm that Richard of Newbury had such a title.

Incidentally, a descendant of Richard of Newbury is in the Pike DNA Project, so we know that Richard's patriline belongs to a larger Pike cluster that seems to be centred around Hampshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire.

I can trace Joseph's PIKE ancestry back to Joseph & Katherine who lived at Chudleigh, Devon, in the mid 1700s, but if you have earlier information then I'd be happy to see it.

As for Joseph at Instow, this is the first that I've seen of his marriage record, so thank-you for bringing it to my attention!  Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any birth registrations for children with Pike+Negus parents, although I haven't yet checked on spelling variations.

There is a death registration in 1946 for a Dorothea V Pike, age 67 [hence born about 1879] in the district of Bideford, Devon ... this looks likely to be Joseph's wife.

Spiderboy:  thanks for the info about Leslie S Miller.

As it happens, since posting my original query I've managed to get in touch with a member of the family who has been quite helpful.

I've found the family in the 1911 census now, where they're listed as follows:

William Louis Miller, head, 40, Pork and Provision Dealer, Wareham
  Rose Miller, wife, 37, Poole
Ivy Rose Miller, daughter, 14, School, Poole
William Ewart Miller, son, 12, School, Poole
Frederick Lionel Miller, son, 7, School, Poole
Leslie Stuart Miller, son, 2, Poole
John Keith Miller, son, 1, Poole
Elsie Stone, servant, 16, General Servant, Poole

There also appears to be a daughter Olive G born in Q4 1913, but I haven't yet found more recent details of the family.

Dorset / MILLER - Poole

I'm wondering if anybody is researching the family of W L MILLER and Sons of Poole.

If I'm right, this is the same family as William Louis MILLER who I believe married Rose GALLOP in 1895 and appears to be listed in the 1901 census at 104 High Street as follows:

William L Miller, head, m, 30, Pork & Provision Shopkeeper, Dorset Wareham
Rose Miller, wife, m, 27, Dorset Poole
Joy R Miller, daur, 4, Dorset Poole
William E Miller, son, 2, Dorset Poole

Devon / PIKE family, Appledore/Northam
« on: Monday 17 May 10 21:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi everybody.

I'm wondering if anybody might be be able to help me locate descendants of a PIKE family that was living at Richmond House, Appledore at the time of the 1891 and 1901 census.  This family consisted of William Lewison PIKE, his wife Jessie Anne, daughter Crystal, and son Joseph.

My suspicion is that Joseph (born about 1880 at Parkstone, Dorset) might have married in 1924 to Violet CHALLACOMBE.

Thanks,

- David.

Okay then.  The little we seem to have to go on then is that Edward and Dinah's marriage took place in the parish of St James Garlickhithe.  The marriage record simply describes Edward as being "of this parish" and "bachelor".  There is no mention of Edward's age or parents.

The death index at FreeBMD lists an Edward Pike whose death was registered in Q2 of 1840 in the Strand district.

Hi Angie.

Do you know if Edward lived long enough to get enumerated in the 1841, 1851, etc censuses?  I can try to look him up for you if you think I might find him.  Locating him in 1851 would be wonderful, as his parish of birth should be included in that census.

Hi Deborah.

It sounds like you're quoting what I typed up and put onto my website two years ago, after I paid a visit to the archives in Dorchester and took notes from several Pike wills.  You'll find that I've since put some additional information online too, although there is still much that is yet to be determined.

I'll be in Dorset again in a few weeks and will hopefully learn a bit more about some of our Pike ancestors.
