The Common Room / Re: An interesting thought!
« on: Saturday 09 March 24 20:52 GMT (UK)  »
I have three daughters.

1 married in Florida
2 married in Vegas
3 planned her marriage in Hampshire, but then got a job abroad which required her and her fiancée to be married. A quick registry office wedding followed with her planned wedding turning into a ceremony blessing a year later!

All 3 married within 3 months of each other and we were living in the Middle East at the time!
Makes interesting reading in the FH program. Looking back our lives haven’t been the norm 🤣

Managed to fill in some blanks and got side tracked as you do  ::)  I concentrated on my Canadian and US relatives and feel it was a productive weekend.. even managed to find quite a few photos.

I need to keep a look out for the next free weekend / offers.

Did anyone use newspapers.com for UK papers? Did you have much luck?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: "The Gift"

I listened to all the episodes and was shocked though not surprised by early ‘professional’ attitudes where they believed they could do anything. It has been good a law was introduced, but DNA is moving much faster than the law. There are ethical issues that need to be considered legally. My God-daughter was created by using a sperm donor. She does not have a problem. But she has joined a Facebook page where some are questioning their DNA results. One guy tried to emigrate, and had to name his parents and send a DNA sample. He was told the DNA did not match his father. That informed him, but there is a sister who still did not know. She was asking questions on Facebook and my God-daughter suggested a sperm donor. I believe there needs to be stricter laws and legal guidelines for all to follow, including governments.

Health: I chose not to use DNA to look at health issues. Having just become a pensioner, for many years I have had diabetes type two and hereditary blood pressure, if anything else is arriving I don’t care, and would rather die of ignorance.

Have you seen the programme “Born to a stranger” on ITV  and ITV x ? It’s all about sperm and egg donor children, it’s very good and touches on the Facebook groups. I think last night’s episode was the last one in this series, but well worth watching on catch up… warning I found episode 2 very touching

Galway / Help needed with death record on irishgenealogy

Hi

Think this is a first for me but the death record appears to be written in Gaelic? (sorry if I have that wrong) and I can't read it!

Charles O'Hara Trench died 29 May 1927 at Confert Eyrecourt co Galway (got that from Edinburgh Probate)  RD Ballinasloe
can anyone tell me the cause of death please and also the informant appears to be M A Trench, is a relationship noted?

Thanks in advance
Jenny
