 Hi.

I live in the area & am admin of The Bere Alston & West Devon Facebook group. As such, I am always keeping an eye on local info & you should look into the Calstock Parish Archive. They too have a Facebook page & a website. They have lots of lovely info at their disposal. Hope this helps.
Suzanne.

Hi.
I have also looked in the past, but little is known. What I can tell you is that it was on the current Tesco site & there's a Facebook Launceston History page that might be of interest to you.

Hi,
I can recommend the Calstock Parish archive. They are very helpful if you contact them & also have a Facebook group.

Devon / Re: Thomas Henry PEEK b1864 Plymouth

Hi,

I have looked at all of those records. It's definitely him in Stenalees, but Ottery is far from Plymouth & why would he change his name from Robert to Thomas? Perhaps when the DNA results come back they may hold a new connection? :-\

Thank you for helping,
Suzanne.

Devon / Thomas Henry PEEK b1864 Plymouth
« on: Thursday 16 February 23 13:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I need help & I am totally stuck.
Thomas Henry Peek b1864 Plymouth married Mary Jane Bonthron Martin in 1895. I can trace him from 1881 when he is a servant & as a married man, but I cannot find his birth record. The only Henry Thomas Peek born in 1864 is in Newmarket. I have tried all sorts of combos based on his first & surname. Since this morning, know his father was James Peek, labourer as stated on his marriage certificate (1895, St Jude's, Plymouth). Yet still I am none the wiser. Can anyone run an expert eye over this man & see if you can locate him please? He insists he has been born in Plymouth & moves to St Austell, Cornwall.
All the best
Suzanne.

Devon Lookup Requests / Re: John MARTIN & Mary Snowdon PUTT Marriage 1863
« on: Wednesday 15 February 23 22:42 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you!
I had seen that & was going round in circles wondering if I had imagined the info. The Bonthron bit threw me & until I received the marriage certificate I thought maybe they had adopted Mary Jane based on their ages.
The lady who I am researching for remembers snippets of stories from her mum, but had no concrete information. She has paperwork to still go through, but it's mostly photos.
It's the Bonthron bit that is ringing bells on a story she remembers. I am trying to keep costs down for her, but certificates are inevitable. I will have another look tomorrow with fresh eyes.
Again thank you.
Suzanne.

Devon Lookup Requests / John MARTIN & Mary Snowdon PUTT Marriage 1863
« on: Wednesday 15 February 23 18:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,
I need help with some marriage information.
John Martin b1811 Launceston, Cornwall met & married Mary Snowden Putt b1820 Marlborough, Devon quite late in life in 1863. They went on to have a daughter in 1865, Mary Jane Bonthron Martin. I have just sent off for their daughter's birth certificate & have traced back on her mother's side, but I cannot find her father's line.
Does anyone have the details of Plymouth parish marriages? Or can you tell me where I could go to check the parish registers within Plymouth? I have Ancestry & Find My Past. I have tried looking on The Box Archives, but nothing is clear even though the Plymouth council site say they have parish registers.
Any help gratefully received.
Regards, Suzanne.

The Common Room / Lost Family Tree Website.
« on: Monday 30 January 23 09:14 GMT (UK)  »
I FOUND IT! Thank heavens my emails are squirreled away! (It was Tribal BTW  ;D)

Morning All,

As it says I have lost a website  :-\
Many years ago I uploaded my tree to a website that was still around two years ago. My lovely laptop died last year where it was saved & I cannot remember the website. Google are biased in what they show, it used to come up, but now they show you many different paid for sites. I can't find it & my mind has gone blank on its name  ::)

So, can anyone remember such a site? It was still free last I looked. It was entitled 'The Lawrence Tree' & part of its address was West of Wiltshire. I started it in about 2006/8.

Any suggestions?
