Graveyards and Gravestones / Re: Cleaning Old Gravestones

I don't have a suggestion for old gravestones, but anyone who may need to photograph Commonwealth war graves, I find that spraying the stone with clean water usually(but not always) highlights the wording enough to allow me to photograph the inscription. Having photographed several hundred stones over the past year this does little or no damage.

Greeting chatters,
I recently received an e-mail from a lady who is researching a family name that could be relevant for me. Although I tried to contact her my messages keep coming back as name not recognised.  So if Ann Fernquest is a 'chatter' can you contact me as I would love to share info with you.

Happy New Year everyone. Have been away for Christmas and returned home this evening, so apologies for not replying sooner to any postings. Many thanks for all input and all advise taken on board.
Happy hunting in 2008 with few brick walls to overcome.

Monmouthshire / Re: Bedwellty Registration District and Nonconformists
« on: Saturday 17 November 07 22:42 GMT (UK)  »
Check Genuki for Monmouthshire it will explain the civil registration area covered by Bedwelty. Tredegar is the only place you could and can be married apart from church or chapel in the area. Bedwelty has been a district since 1861.If the certificate says they were married at the Reg. Office then that's where it was. Being non-conformist I don't think this was the reason that the had a registry marriage. When I married in the early 70's my Baptist minister was licensed to sign the certificate but I think that in some places of worship the Registrar would have to be present to sign the certificate.
Hope that helps.
