Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Bedford St Paul marriage 1708

Thanks very much John and Cuffie. I'll settle for confirmation of the marriage and take a flier that they were the couple who baptised children in Roxton!

Thanks again

David

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Bedford St Paul marriage 1708
« on: Tuesday 09 July 19 13:18 BST (UK)  »
There's a marriage showing on the Pedigree Resource File of FamilySearch, but not on what used to be the IGI. I don' trust Pedigree Resource File!

24 May 1708 at Bedford St Paul. John Robinson and Ann Day.

If anyone has the transcript or is going into Bedford Library, I'd be very grateful for a lookup in the transcript to see if the marriage is real. If it says they were of Roxton it would be a bonus!

Many thanks in advance

David (quiet these days but still alive!)

Might she have been a widow so her maiden name wouldn't have been Cooper?

In 1830 unless you were Jewish or a Quaker you had to marry in the Church of England. It wasn't until 1837 that marriages in non-conformist churches was permitted.

I don't think that Campton marriages post 1812 are available online. Beds FHS have a CDrom which has transcriptions pre 1813 with an index for marriages 1813-51

Where were they  buried? Have you looked at Campton parish register, either for the marriage or for banns which would show Elizabeth's maiden name and parish of residence?

As you know John, I struggle to remember what I did last week, let alone years ago!

But you're right. We've reinvented the wheeL

And Terri, I assume you must have seen these threads if you know Petros is connected to you, but I have no connection to these families

Nice one John. That will do nicely!

Have you seen Family Search at Westoning where there are entries for 5 children of James and Ann Smith? Joel, Daniel, Samuel Mary and a fifth which I saw earlier but which I can't find now! All births from the database England and Wales Non-Conformist Record Indexes The entries are odd as they have no dates, just 00 0000. They may be the five to which Terri refers.7

Baptists don't do infant baptisms so it can be difficult to trace families.

Many Baptist church books have been transcribed and are available from Beds FHS/Bedford Archives
