I see that my address was removed so we shall have to communicate here.  I am connected to the Netherby family but not directly.  I am connected via the Graham family of Brackenhill Tower.  You are probably aware that the netherby family and the brackenhill family were originally from sons of Lang Will Graham.  I feel that if I can get the right documents, I shall descend from the Netherby family as well.  Unfortunately as you may be aware the Arthuret Parish registers were accidentally burnt and the registers are going to take some years to restore.  My family, who were living at Randalinton Farm in the Parish of Arthuret, can be traced to about 1650-1660 but due to the burnt records I can't, at this time, progress back any further or confirm the ancestral family.  If the records can be restored, I believe that my ancestors will connect to the Netherby family.  I haven't had my DNA tested yet but plan to do so in due course.  I would be interested in what you have discovered from having yours done.  Cheers from a cold winters day here in NZ. (about 18degC.)  Bruce

This would appear to be an old post; however, my father informs me that his grandmother was the daughter of one of the Grahams of Netherby Hall.  So that would be my great, great grandfather.  My father says that he was the "black sheep" of the Graham family and ran a pub at Durdar in Carlisle.  Coincidentally, I have recently had a DNA test with some puzzling results.

Cumberland / Netherby & Brackenhill Graham's
« on: Sunday 08 July 07 21:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi Listers,

I am desperately wanting to make contact with any researchers who have
confirmed connections to the Netherby or Brackenhill Graham's of
Cumberland, England.

I am working on a task in my ancient family of Graham's and particularly
need a copy of the descendant tree from Richard Graham of Netherby down
to at least the mid 1700's with as much detail of dates and events as
possible. My particular interest is the branch of the Netherby family
that extends down through Richard Graham of Brackenhill.

I would also like to find out if anyone who has confirmed their
genealogy to the Netherby / Brackenhill Grahams has had a DNA test
carried out.

I am off to the UK again on 3rd August and will be visiting Arthuret &
Kirklinton parishes while I am there.  I would like to try and complete
the task in hand before I go so that I can carry out additional research
at Carlisle Castle during my visit.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Hutchin,

Are you named after one of "Lang Wills" sons?

Is the Catherine that you are descended from the one that had brothers, Charles, James, William & Fergus? The children of Robert Graham and his wife Frances Graham, born Wath, Yorkshire, 17th May, 1731?

I have quite a lot of information on the family from Nertherby and other Graham's related to them who are scattered along the Esk and other parts of Arthuret Parish.

Regards, Bruce (in New Zealand)

Hi Penny,

Yes I have located where "Moathill" was, better still I have photographs of waht remains of the house, just some rubble in a field.

If you would like to send me your E-Mail address, I can send you copies of the photos.

We may be able to find some family connection together.

Regards, Bruce
