The following info is from a book called "The Story of Steventon" by A L H Baylis.
It would appear that the Reverend Dr William Page, vicar of Steventon 1812-1817, previously headmaster of Westminster School, decided to start a school for boys as at that time there was only a girls school in Steventon.
He arranged for William Looker son of a local farmer to attend Roysse's School (Now Abingdon School) and on completing his education the vicar placed William in charge of a new school, which is believed could have been for boys only.
Another vicar the Reverend William Vincent, vicar of Steventon 1839 - 1851 built a school for girls. 1839 - 1864 there was an all girls’ school in Steventon village established by the vicar Rev William Vincent.
In 1864 the current school was built where both boys and girls were and continue to be educated to age 11.
