Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: COLEMAN FAMILY AND MARRIAGE
« on: Thursday 16 November 06 23:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Gidget37,

John Coleman married Sarah Stone 18 Nov. 1777 in Brede Parish Church.

James Coleman married Elizabeth Marshall 12 May 1811 in Icklesham Church.

                  Hope this might help.

Hi lizdb,

Thanks for that. I have been trying for ages to get the index ref.

Now I can send for a certificate. It's amazing how problems are solved by
     probing other peoples minds.

Sussex / Ticehurst Marriages Jun Qtr 1887
« on: Tuesday 17 October 06 21:30 BST (UK)  »
      Hi,

Can anyone come up with a good reason as to why I am unable to find either on Ancestry or Rootsweb of a full list of marriages for this period.

It would appear that M to Z are covered. Not much help if you are looking for James Goodsell he married a Rose .............

I am wondering if the indexes were damaged or destroyed.

          Any theories would be appreciated.

                                           Thanks

Norfolk / Re: Astley Terrace, Melton Constable
« on: Friday 29 September 06 17:33 BST (UK)  »
   Hi audienv,

I am afraid I have to correct you as regards the house that Bishop Green lived in.
You will find that you quoted the schedule numbers and not house numbers.
Astley Terrace was and still is numbered 1 to 12.Therefore he lived at number 3. No 3 entrance is the 2nd doorway to the right of the first downpipe, reading from left to right, on the enclosed picture.
I would say that the picture was taken early 1900's.
Looking across from my front room window it still looks very much the same now as it did then!!
I don't know whether you have birth record of Bishop or not.
It is Sept. Qtr. 1875 Erpingham 4b/71 and marriage record to Martha Neale is Sept. Qtr. 1896 Erpingham 4b/91.
Anything else I might be able to help you with please let me know.

                                    Regards
                                                  Ron

World War One / Labour Corps WW1
« on: Tuesday 26 September 06 21:09 BST (UK)  »
I have just discovered that an uncle of mine was in The Queens Regt. during WW1.
How would he have finished in the Labour Corps?
He was issued with a different service number. Was this normal?
Lastly what was the Labour Corps?
             Any help appreciated.

                                            Ron

Sussex / Anyone going to ESRO.
« on: Wednesday 13 September 06 20:23 BST (UK)  »
   Anykind person going to ESRO?
If so could you possibly check in the Electoral Register for 1939 for Guestling Thorn (ref C/C 70/263-324). Reference sent to me by the Senior Archivist.
I am trying to locate a  Annie or Anne or Hannah who lived ,I think, next to or closeby the wheelwright/smithy. His surname was Hunter.
As far as I know she was married to whom I do not know!
Hence seeking her surname. She was always known as aunt in my mothers side of the family.
Any help will be much appreciated.

                                      Thanks Ron

Norfolk / Re: Burial Record for William Honnor or Honner 1883
« on: Saturday 26 August 06 23:22 BST (UK)  »
  Hi JanetteO,

Having nothing better to do I thought I would see what I could find out about William Honnor.
It would appear that he was a publican whotook over Marquis of Lothian pub in Norwich on 27th June 1876.
On his demise in 1883,his wife Elizabeth took over. She being some 18 years younger than he.Apparently he was born in the City of London.

Itwould appear that he had a grandson and a grandaughter who in 1881 were staying with them. They were born in Enfield Lock!

Which may well be why William was taken back to Enfield for burial as he died in Norwich (Mar. Qtr 1883 Norwich 4b/119)
I thought you might be interested in his story.

                                                      Ron
