Channel Islands Lookup Requests / William BUTTON b. abt. 1805/6 Guernsey

Helping a friend trace her family, but now hit a brick wall with this chap.
He enlisted in the British navy in 1825 and served until 1862 when he became a Greenwich Pensioner. His service record shows that he was 20 when he enlisted and was born in Guernsey.
He married Ann PARKER nee BURGE in 1849 in East Stonehouse, Devon (don't know if this was his 1st or 2nd marriage; it was Ann's 2nd).
Ann died in 1859 and William in 1872, both in Stoke Damerel, Devon. They had 2 daughters: Sarah Selena b. 1851 who m. Thomas WILLCOCKS  in 1873 in Devon, and Mary Louisa b. 1853. All 3  emigrated to South Australia between 1873 and 1878.
Can anyone help me find William's birth and/or baptism in Guernsey and his parents names please?

Hi John,
the EASONs are ancestors of my brother's wife not mine, but I'll be happy to share the research I've done for her, and would love to have your family history to share with her.

Contact me on (*) and I can send you the info as an attachment.

What a useful site, thanks very much. I now have a picture of the EASON clan back to the late 1600s.
I have tried all the [free indices] sites I know for Ireland for Jethro & Mary's marriage, but no success. I'm trying to avoid the expense of more certificatesbuying credits, but may have to go down that track if my sister in law is really keen to pursue that line. I would, but I'm a fanatic, and I think she just has a mild interest.
Thanks again folks.

Wow, where did you get the information about Jethro's health please?

A friend has just sent me a .jpg file of his military record/discharge document, but there were no details re health, just sign on/discharge dates & length of service.

I wonder why his widow Mary ended up in Cornwall. She and William MARTIN moved to South Wales before 1841, but returned to William 's home town of Penzance by 1850.
Thanks  again to everyone who is helping with this.   Peggy

Thanks Trish - I have Jethro snr's marriage & baptism + bap.& burial of his wife Susannah MITCHELL + all their children. Haven't got the nitty gritty details of his burial so will go after that. I'd really like to find Jnr's burial with age [to put icing on the cake], but mostly want Jnr's & Mary's marriage. Will go back & trek through all the Irish sites again.

Connection made, yippee...! - the 81st Regiment of Foot was in Ireland at the relevant time and also the Channel Islands.
If Jethro, aged 40, left the army in 1832, what would he do? He doesn't seem to have returned to the UK as I can't find him in censuses.
Maybe he died leaving Mary free to marry William MARTIN [if they did actually marry]and produce their first daughter Mary MARTIN abt. 1836 in Cornwall.
I think it's his father Jethro senior's death in Somerset in 1845 [but no age given in the GRO]. Findmypast has 2 deaths listed in their index for that year for Jethro EASON - and I assumed it to be a duplication.
Now I just have to find the marriage of Jethro and Mary.  Plod on...   Cheerio, Peggy

I think this is the one, although I have yet to prove the connection.  From the marriage record of Eliza [presumed sister of Susannah], father Jethro was a soldier so this is a positive identifier.
I've found a whole family of EASONs in Merriott, Somerset [not Merioneth as in the National Archives record]. Jethro was bap.6.3.1791, 3rd of 7 children of Jethro EASON [snr] and Susannah MITCHELL.
If I could just find the marriage between Jethro EASON and Mary ...?.. [later MARTIN] that would be a clincher. Mary was from Donegal, Ireland so it may well have happened there, especially as the eldest 2 daughters {Ann abt. 1821 & Eliza abt. 1824]were born in Ireland, then Susannah & James were born in Guernsey several years later.  I'll have to try to find the postings of the regiment in which Jethro served. Thank you for your help - much appreciated.     Peggy

Tried Donkeypedia without success, but that led me to a Guernsey family history facebook page so maybe someone there can help.
Thank you for your suggestions.
