Can't find these marriages you mention in the indexes, have you a date and place of birth for James or more marriage details for Edward? Its not much to go on to help you I'm afraid

Hi
I think Kris has covered all the bases Peter :)
The surname Dean doesn't occur much in Cornwall, but all those names you mention like Andean, Indain etc - its all the same family. It totally threw me initially that there are so many variations of this one name!
Next step is definitely the Tregony OPC, his transcripts will have been taken directly  from copies of the originals, and he is a highly experienced genealogist, far more so than me. Then again, most OPC's are - they're all old, I'm only 29! :) heheheregards

Hi
I've come across this before - it is probably Andean. Its a case of the vicar was told her name was Elizabeth Andean and wrote it as Elizabeth Ann Dean - they never checked these things! I transcribe parish registers and am a colleague of Bill O'Reilly, being the OPC of Sithney, Porthleven, Constantine and Mawnan and can tell you from experience that you get these all the time!
Since William had a son Henry, I'd opt for him being the son of Henry & Catherine, so its worth getting in touch with the Cuby OPC, David Crocker, to get back further

Hi
Your correct that Ladock isn't in St Agnes parish, Ladock os a parish in its own right, I believe it borders St Columb Minor. At a guess I'd say its about 15-20 miles from St Agnes, but thats a real guesstimate!
As for his burial place, If you've visited the Cornwall OPC site I gave you, you'll find links to other OPC schemes for other counties, Devon is one of them, so follow the link from there. The appropriate OPC may also have poor law records to hand so its worth an ask

Hi
The advantage of being an OPC :)
We get CD's sent to us, thanks to a contract we've got with the LDS - they take months to get here mind! Can't share them however, so can't help you with them - contractual violation and all that :)
I meant to add before that the double F could be a red herring as well - double S was also written like that for convention, some sort of flourishy effect!
I got picked up on iyt when I started, since Sithney has a lot of Russell's, which I'd dutifully transcribed as Ruffell! I got picked up on it and had to change the lot! So it could be Dassaril - not that it makes any more sense!
You haven't found any more of her family at all to compare with?

Hi
I meant to say, find a name that definitely starts with a D and compare it. Given what you've said, I think its likely to be a D. The OPC transcribed it as Dasparil, which I'm not convinced by, so will ask her to take another look at it - GOd knows I've been picked up on enough for errors like this!
Not good really - I took a look at the early Constantine records earlier and they are unfortunately far worse! My advantage is I have digital scans rather than fiche, here's hoping it helps!

To be honest (and coming from someone used to transcribing this stuff) I'm not completely sold on her initials being J J, there is just something not quite right about it. I can see why it may have been transcribed as a 'D' though if this is the case, its written a little clumsily - plausible given the slightly scruffy calligraphy. the end is defintely 'ffaril' theres no way its Jeffery. I think we need also bear in mind a lot of names back then have since gone extinct, and there were some doozies way back when!
It could be a J, but I'd hate to choose between that and a D - its the tail on the letters, one sweeps in a narrow tail, the other is a thicker, sharper stroke, I'm glad the vicars in the parishes I cover as OPC had neater handwriting!

Hi
The bits I have show the name as Dasparil as well - transcriptions from the OPC, but having not seen these originals I'm not going to argue the point! :)
