Europe / Re: Birth in Hannover, Germany

I don't suppose it'll help, but my g-g-grandmother was born about 1857  in Hannover - a British Subject according to the censuses. There must be some records, probably in Germany. Maybe the only solution is to go there. I'll keep watching this thread - JIC!

Hi - I wondered how you got on with this. I too have an ancestor born (about 1857) in Hanover, British Subject - Annie Langan (or Laughan). All I know of her parentage is that her father was Henry Langan, a baker, of unknown origins.

Celia - I thought you might be interested to know (or maybe not), that I found the marriage I was looking for. They DID get married in Liverpool. A few of my ancestors living in Seacombe must have found it easier to take the ferry to get married than to traipse up to St Hilary before they built St Paul's in Seacombe. That's my theory anyway!

Oh, yes! And Thomas was born 10 Aug 1885 at 43 Vine Street, Birkenhead, and Daisy was born 20 Feb 1885 at 144 Price Street, Birkenhead.

Annie - I don't know about John or Robert - but Thomas was my great grandfather. He married Daisy Apter on 6 Aug 1905 at St Nicholas Church near the Pier Head in Liverpool. The Apter family originally came from Devon.

Thank you for the reply, Annie. Charles Steen (b 1842) appears then to be a common ancestor of ours. I have been looking at Charles Steen's line and his wife Elizabeth Upton - but only got back one generation further - Dodd & Taylor. It seems to be a dead end, but I've got plenty of other relatives to look into!

Agnes & Ralph may well have been first cousins. My g.g.grandfather was
Charles Steen born in 1842. His son George (b 1865) married Annie Huntingdon & had a daughter Agnes (b 1900). Another son James (b 1868ish) married Agnes Watkins & had a son Ralph (b 1895), so they could well have married. I haven't researched that far. Another son, b 1885 Thomas was my g-grandfather. Another brother Charles (b 1880) married Agnes Jane Huntingdon. Another of the brothers was called Ralph - a family name! The Huntingdons may well be sisters - one day I might have time to look into it!

Thanks for looking Celia. The marriage should be in the official records as I'm sure it's post 1837, but I can't find it: never mind!
