Thanks so much to all those who responded to my inquiry on the Shoreditch Infirmary. The response gave me all the information that I needed to make a true identification of my g-g-g grandfather there. As a further comment on genealogical digging, it is somewhat sad to learn that your forebear spent their last years in an institution where you do not know what level of care they received, especially when their  diagnosis upon admission was paralysis. Knowing this does bring on some emotional response.I hope my g-g-g- grandfather did not suffer too much in his last years and was attended to by some kind people at the Infirmary.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Shoreditch Infirmary Information

My g-g-g grandfather the watchmaker Thomas Wright (b. 1796) appears to have been a patient at Shoreditch Infirmary in the 1881 census. I wonder how it might be possible to get any further information on this infirmary. He was 85 at the time and I assume he would have died between 1881 and 1891. However, I have consulted the Free BMD index and cannot seem to find any death record for him. He is one of the few ancestors for whom I cannot pin down a precise date and place of death. Any assistance or advice would be very appreciated.

Many thanks to both of you who responded to the query. I believe that the Thomas Wright identified is probably the one. Thanks again!

Would there be anyone with access to the St Lukes Old Street Parish Registers for 1796-1797-1798? Hoping to find a baptismal record for Thomas Wright who gave his place of birth as St. Lukes in the 1851 census and who gave his age as 53 and 64 in the 1861 census. He was a watchmaker and I wonder if the baptismal records might show his father as one.

I believe that my Jordan family ancestors are somewhere on the 1841 census, probably for Clerkenwell: Thomas, a japanner, (b. 1794), Mary (b.1790) and their children who might include Thomas (1818) and Emma (1822). My g-g grandfather John (b. 1820-possibly enumerated in St. Pancras) would be listed as a watchmaker or hand chronometer maker as would his brother Thomas.
Would anyone help me with a quick look-up on this census and see if these Jordans are in fact in Clerkenwell or Pancras?
Would be most appreciative-Robert Page USA

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Jordan-Shoreditch-1871 Census
« on: Monday 18 February 08 04:34 GMT (UK)  »
I have tried in vain to locate my g-grandmother Lavinia Jordan in the 1871 census. The closest I can find in an index is a "Laura" Jordan, 20, Shoreditch. There may have been an error in the name transcription process. The age and the location are right but could someone please check RG10, piece 447, folio 42, page 15 to see if it might be her?She was born in clerkenwell. Her father was living in Shoreditch at the time, and she was as yet unmarried,
She may have been working in a laundry.
thank you for any assistance with this request.

Could anyone help me find Thomas WRIGHT,watchmaker, and his family in the 1851 census? He was at Little Sutton Place Clerkenwell in the 1841 census. He may have moved to some nearby location ten years later. The enumeration should include (with approximate ages):
Thomas Wright, 54, Louisa, 52, possibly Susannah 19, Walter 15, Matilda 14, Hannah 12, Clara 10.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Finding my 3g-grandfather's death
« on: Thursday 30 March 06 04:05 BST (UK)  »
I have been looking for the death date for my g-g-g-grandfather Thomas Wright and wonder how I might get this most efficiently. He was actually born in September 1791 but was listed in the 1871 census as a widowed watch finisher 75 years old. I then found a Thomas Wright in the 1881 census who was listed as 80 years old, born in St. Lukes  and a retired watch glass manufacturer(close) who was by then re-married to 56-year old Maria Wright.  I then looked at the Free BMD and saw twoThomas Wrights who died in the March 1884 quarter , one in Islington at age 80, the other in Shoreditch at age 83. Any way that I could find out if this was my ancestor -even though these ages would have been wrong-without ordering a whole bunch of death certificates? I would love to know if I had a 3-g grandfather who lived to be 92 or 93 and who re-married at age 85 -to a woman over 30 years younger than himself.
