Daisy,

Many thanks but those are both War Graves, whereas I am seeking the MIs at Craghead St Thomas.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Durham Lookup Requests / Memorial Inscriptions at Craghead Co Durham

I believed I had seen a reference to Memorial Inscriptions at Craghead in Co Durham somewhere here but now can't find that message.  Is there anyone that can point me to MIs at Craghead (I regret I cannot get to Durham on the Mon - Wed that the Archives are open).

Many thanks everyone for taking this amount of interest.  I had already seen the census entries for the family and can (almost certainly) say that William and Mary are the parents of Ann, John, William & Elizabeth.  Both Ann & Elizabeth seem to have had illegitimate sons - Ann had Joseph (the subject of the original message) and Elizabeth has had a William.

I hadn't seen the Banns which may well have been called and not "followed through", so that was a good spot by Goughy.  Thanks.  I can confirm that Ann's father was a wheelwright so carpenter would fit in respect of the 1851 marriage.  I must look to see if a similar scenario could have played out for Ann's sister Elizabeth.

But on the subject of "GRO Page Nos", I can confirm that these are of use and can certainly guide you to where a marriage took place.  The transcription from the registers to the GRO Indexes follow a methodical approach each quarter and far from being useless except for ordering certificates from the GRO, they can provide a fair amount of guidance.  For those that are interested it's worth looking up.  Search for "Cardinal Points" if you want to know more.

Thank you to everyone.

Thank you Goughy, BumbleB & CaroleW.  I'm defeated!

Looks like I'll have to order the certificate but given the GRO Page number, I don't understand why it's not at Howden.  Marriage Locator has all marriages between page numbers 144 and 175 inclusive as being at Howden Parish.  Page 143 is Thornton by Pocklington (in Pocklington RD) and Page 176 is unknown between Howden and Hessle (in Sculcoates RD).

Possibly my only hope is that it is in the register but not transcribed.

Thanks avm228.  Must use marriage locator in future.  That's good news and all I need now then is for some very kind soul going to Beverley Archives to look it up for me.

Still hoping.

That is the right family in 1871.

I can't tell which church the marriage took place in as I don't have a look up table from the page number, but based upon the page number it looks as if it might be parish of Howden itself.

If anyone has a table, the page is (9d) 165.

Here's hoping.

I'm hopeful that someone going to Beverley would be kind enough to look up a marriage for me.

I'm trying to establish the details for JOSEPH HEMINGWAY who married in Howden sometime in the Dec Qtr 1862.  I'm fairly sure it was to Mary Richardson, but it is the detail that I am in need of.  I believe that Joseph was illegitimate and as much info from the marriage could help ensure that I trace the right Joseph.

Thank you.

David Hemingway is my 1st Cousin 4 Times Removed - whatever that means!

He is the youngest child (of eight that I am aware of) from John Hemingway & Elizabeth Fean who married 16 Sept 1793 at Featherstone All Saints.  He was born 7 Jun 1809 at Low Ackworth and was bapt 9 Jul 1809 at Ackworth St Cuthbert.   He died 18 Jul 1858 at South Milford of phthesis and was buried 20 Jul 1858 at South Milford.  His wife died 5 Dec 1869 of tuberculosis.  I think they had at least seven children

John Hemingway (father of David) (my 3rd Gt Gt Uncle!) was bapt 28 Sep 1766 at Snaith St Lawrence and died at Low Ackworth in 1815 being buried at Ackworth St Cuthbert 12 Feb 1815.  His parents were Michael Hemingway and Mary Bailey.

Of course you probably know all this by now.
