Aye. They’ve only had 101 years to think about it. 😉

Both Ernie and my great uncle Willie Roxburgh were in McCrae's Battalion. I've got 2 copies of Jack Alexander's book - one dedicated to Ernie and Willie by the author.  I hadn't twigged that Ernie was mentioned in the book - and was a poet!

I'd love a copy of a photo of Ernie for my tree!
(And, Kate!)

All the best,

Stuart

Morning June,

Ernie Becker was in the same battalion - 16th Royal Scots - as my great uncle, Willie Roxburgh.  They both died on 1 July 1916 on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.  Charlie Becker married Grace Fraser in 1924.  He'd been shot during the Great War.  'My' Becker is Frank; he married my great auntie Jessie, the sister of my granddad Tam Roxburgh.

Hi June,

Ida's brother, Frank, married my great aunt, Jessie Ina Roxburgh.  Her brother, Thomas McQuaters Roxburgh was my grandad.

I'll have to investigate Thomas Salmon Aitchison and his second wife!

Yours aye,

Stuart
