Blackcurrant tea— hot water with a couple of spoons of home made blackcurrant jam dissolved in it —- magic cure .
An Aspirin dissolved in warm water used as a gargle really gets to the pain in throat infections ,no need to swallow it .

A boiled onion ,still hot in a clean cloth on an abscess seems to
“ draw “ out the awful gunge and hence hastens the healing.

Old fashioned remedies ,cost nothing and did the trick very often.
Pre NHS we had nothing else.

Salty water is a good cleanser for wounds .
Clove oil for toothache.

Yes, nice to read people are on the mend.
A very cold breezy bright morning.
Did some big towels ,will soon be dry,

Just thinking about the landing and stairs ,not decorated since the house renovators did  everywhere in “ Trade white” ——-
There is paint that reflects light ,the stairs are not well lit .
Carpet mingled grey.

Landing is small, otherwise I would like a feature wall.
I have some nice prints of Greek vases, terracotta and  black.
Also some pottery my other son brought back from Athens , I would like to use those but—- the landing is very small so a case of”  less is more” .
I also have to cross the top of the stairs to get to the bathroom - so easy to fall down sideways! So landing - such as it is — needs to be clear.
LSo,etime later———
Raining hard now, what a surprise !

Well - Last of The Summer Wine on ,I love it.
Cheerio. Viktoria.
I also need a light at the bottom of the stairs, ,I descend into darkness and can’t differentiate between the last stair and the floor- same carpet on both so I slam down sometimes.
I usually count but I have a small light colour carpet sample on the floor so see that easily and no misjudgement.

Yes Anzac Day.
Gosh, I can remember when it was only 30 years previously that what the day commemorated had taken place.
We still had The Empire then.
We celebrated it at school , later in the Sixth Form doing Greek( very badly,)
the teacher pointed out the connection to The Trojan Wars.
Gallipoli ,the beaches and cliffs which trapped the Empire’ sAnzac troops between the Turks and the sea, with the supposed site of Troy above.
Achilles and Patrocles fighting over a slave girl and Patrocles donning Achilles posh armour and getting killed .

The Anzaks’  bravery in France and Belgium, my Dad’s ashes are scattered at Hill 60, which was left as it was,all churned up from the tunnels set with explosives under our and the German trenches ,The Australian and New Zealand  troops have lovely memorials as do The Canadians who all fought in that area — amongst any others.
So far from home and very few families could make the journey to visit graves, but there are no individual ones.
Still full of unexplored and unstable explosives it was impossible to move the huge mound of earth.
Hill 60 is the memorial site with a stone monument at the roadside .
Dad is under a Hawthorn tree tree - self seeded
Grazed by sheep and full of wild flowers,a natural wildflower meadow.
He thought it really peaceful and expressed the wish re his ashes.
We still lived in Belgium when he died 1974.

Well a bitter wind but bright and sunny.Washing dry and ironed in no time.
Tuna Pasta bake for tea .

Friend phoned to say her pretty little cat cat died in the night ,all alone ,but perhaps and hopefully in her sleep.
Don’t they break your heart!

Well a tin to open - pasta to cook ,breadcrumbs to crumb and mushroom sauce to slave over, ——- well Campbell’s’ condensed mushroom soup to open .
I still have to slave over the crumbs!

Cheerio.

Glad all that is sorted re game!
Wonder what they will do in  the  bigger picture. There must be many more people baffled, wonder if it is a translation from Chinese for example ,they lose sense in translation if in China’s idea of English.

Hope your eye gets on well.BB.It is worth it .

Well in May (pre Covid,)every year, Ramsbottom held a War Weekend, 1940’s  themed.Church had a NAAFI cafe,it was a good money earner for funds.
Not sure what is happening this year ,we are all about five years older, many not in the same state of health ,time and Covid  !

Mad Windy day, my washing line broke! thankfully as I was putting uthe first item, managed to join it. I will need a new one though , it has been up since I came here.
So almost eight years .

Just ordered a new set of water plants for the little pond so with the mini straw bundles and filters cleaned  I am hoping it stays clean this Summer.

Well must get on .
Hope those with health issues are alright .

Glad you got to the Wedding Jeff, a happy and sad occasion too, I expect , missing loved ones.

Sunny here now but what a night!
Hailstones so loud !
Windy and cold albeit sunny.

Heart Clinic today ,lots to sort out no prescription as yet from Health Centre for my next drug which was to replace one I had to stop on Saturday.
All so befuddling .

Must pick up my watch ,new battery ,it had to go back to Accurist to be waterproofed again and I paid for that but found it’s guarantee etc I had paid up front for lifetime batteries , including re sealing.
So a refund I hope.

Son’s Birthday today, 65,he looks about 40 at most ,no wrinkles ,tall and very slender.
He bought himself what he wanted and I have paid ,a rack for a decommissioned very old rifle .
I also got him a vase, black and white Art Deco style ,he likes that and as it is of the  ( 1929) period when his - and my- house was built he is revealing some nice original details.
It will be years before he moves in at this rate!

My sister is 90 on the 20th, but won’t celebrate, she ignores birthdays .
I will send a plain card ,I have one  of those from the BBC programmes, Spring Watch ,of a glade in a wood carpeted with bluebells .No words!
Just saying hope she has a lovely day.

Well I have not had any notification of many posts, not sure what is wrong.
I do check and find them if I search others’ posts ,but they are not coming up in unread posts .
It will be something daft I have done .

My brown- garden and food waste need a good scrub out as the little bags we are given by The Council are very biodegradable!
Rot away quite quickly so I double bag, but it needs a good scrub out with a brush the builders left ,kept for that purpose only.
Next time it is emptied I will do it.

Cheerio, look after yourselves.

Viktoria.

Diane, I am sure you are correct, but there was some link with Canada, obviously given your information very tenuous .
It was very early 1960’s and very sad that it possibly meant some children were misdiagnosed , we never heard of Autism prior to that and my course certainly didn’t include it in behavioural problems.
The children who showed some symptoms were were thought to be either very naughty —— for whatever reason ,there is always a reason for a child’s behaviour — or subnormal - what a fearful phrase is that- when in fact many autistic people are high achievers .
It seemed to affect boys much more frequently than girls too.
There was very little help for parents who had no idea what the problem was nor the cause.
It certainly seemed a new condition.
I remember the article I read-  some years later - in I feel sure “ The Readers’ Digest”.
The originator of the theory was named and shamed ,also on T.V.
It was Dr,Andrew Wakefield and his article was published in The Lancet ,which publication later retracted their article .
I can’t remember the link to Canada but feel sure there was one .

I don’t know if they have written about the mines you mention ,but Ivor J.Brown and Fred Brook with Martin Allbutt have written about the Shropshire Lead Mines .
They are cavers and have researched those mines extensively ,particularly The Snailbeach one.
D,R, Adams wrote about the Llanymynech  Ogof ( number 8) in 1970, new edition edited by A.J. Pearce in 1992,
No numbers for that one
A phone number only I am afraid but The National Association of Mining History Organisations might have info :- 01629583814.
Not sure if that includes Wales but they might help somehow .

Yes Roobarb one victim a young baby, the very brave W.P. C had to shoot the gunman. He will be traced though I am sure ,it needs to be known if he acted alone or was part of an “ organisation” .
I phoned my sister who has a daughter and her family in Sydney .
She seemed not worried .

It is indeed shocking news.

A bright afternoon after some rain.

I am watching one Amaryllis leaf ,growing almost as I watch it!
A leftover from Christmas.

Omelettes for tea with a hefty  salad, and a cheese boule loaf .

Hope no one has anyone affected by the tragedy in Sydney.
