Staffordshire / Re: Percival Frederick Ball
« on: Wednesday 27 September 17 09:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi Melissa
I've not been on this site for  a while.
I'm very interested to learn more about your links in the Ball family. It's a part of my tree that has always proved very difficult.
On Percival F Ball's marriage certificate ( to Sarah a Ford ) it states that his father was George Ball  (master butcher) it also lists him as deceased in 1927 when the marriage took place. It gives Percivals occupation as a motor omnibus driver. They were living at an address in Fenton Staffordshire. DOES this match any of your records.
Thanks  :)

The Lighter Side / Re: uhm!!!! so does this mean our research is 'pointless'

Or to put it another way: maternity is a matter of fact; paternity is a matter of opinion.

Yes definitely. I have someone in my tree, who was illegitimate, I checked and double checked a lot of records but turned up nothing substantial. An important point we have to consider is that having a child out of wedlock was considered a sin, and so the true facts of what happened and with whom may  indeed have been distorted in an attempt to cover this up and protect the people involved from scandal. In my experience if you find the name of the father of an illegitimate child you're lucky!   :)

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Tracing paternal line with DNA testing
« on: Monday 12 August 13 10:16 BST (UK)  »
Thank you, I'll speak to my brother about this as he was in contact with a suitable candidate for the DNA test.
As far as I am aware the family originates from Shropshire, the Judd's were a large family, as yet though I haven't gone into great detail with the family.

Yes, the resemblances were uncanny..
It sounds as though the DNA test is the way forward. Do you know where we get the tests and how we go about conducting them please?
Thanks
