Kent Lookup Requests / West Malling workhouse info for Abigail Crayford/Crayfoot
« on: Tuesday 19 April 16 22:11 BST (UK)  »
I don't know what info is available for West Malling workhouse but I am after info on an Abigail Crayford or Crayfoot, who died in West Malling Union House on 9th May 1847.

I have her death certificate and am trying to confirm that she is the Abigail who lived in Whetsted in 1841 and was the widow of Thomas Crayford. The death certificate I have has her as a widow of an Edward Crayford. This may be incorrect and I am leaning to believe that this is indeed a mistake as her age is perfect (86), there is only 1 Kent Abigail Crayford in 1841 and there are none in 1851.

So if anyone does have info from the appropriate workhouse records from the time, this could be very useful to me.

Cheers

The 1764 baptism would be the one I was after (and would make sense of everything). I had spotted many of the siblings baptisms on FamilySearch but not this one. Can I ask where you found this as I like to record sources as much as I can?

Cheers

Kent Lookup Requests / Frinsted/Borden marriage and burial details
« on: Sunday 05 January 14 18:13 GMT (UK)  »
Need help regarding details of a couple of marriages and burials in Frinsted:

Marriage: Thomas Whitnall and Elizabeth Ely 19th or 27th Dec 1784 in Borden - any extra info that can help me identifying Thomas in other registers would be useful

Burial: Thomas Whitnall 28th September 1797 in Frinsted - unsure as to whether this is my Thomas or another Thomas (potentially his father)

I had made an assumption that Thomas, married in Borden, was a Thomas baptised in 1757 in Frinsted nearby (parent Thomas & Sarah). But this now seems unlikely as I have found a burial in July 1757 that seems to be the death of the same infant Thomas. So I am clutching at straws to find any info on the Thomas married in 1784 that may help with his background and potentially lead to a correct baptism of the aforementioned.

These are ancestors of my brother-in-law.

There is a link in the original message to the birth certificate of Richard Bumford, the ancestor in question.

I have a birth certificate for a person born in the Dawley area in the link below:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/61801163/BUMFORD%2C%20Richard%2C%20Birth%20Certificate%2C%201843.jpg

I know that in later censuses, he states his birthplace as Stirchley. However, it does not look like Stirchley on the certificate, more like Hinkshay. I found refernces to a Hinkshay in Shropshire but no modern reference. Can anyone tell me where this was in relationship to Stirchley please? Any relevant maps from the 19th century would be brilliant.

P.S. How does this relate to Hinkshay Row, another address that crops up in my tree?

Cheers

Thanks all for the info.

Very useful.

Also, downloaded the Parish Registers at the archive.org site and am currently trawling through the Harewood registers. Looks like the oldest Robert was a churchwarden and, as such, seems to be a witness to a lot of marriages.

Lots of stuff to work with.

Investigating the Bickerdike and Stubbs families in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

I would like to get hold of any burial details for the following people:

Richard Bickerdike (born 1673 Harewood)

Robert Bickerdike (bap 20 Dec 1710 Harewood) married (16 sep 1736 Pannal) Ann Stubbs (bap 31 Aug 1714 Pannal)

Richard Bickerdike (bap 15 Apr 1743 Spofforth) married (28 Jun 1763 Spofforth) Margaret Jackson

Thomas Bickerdike (bap 27 Dec 1765 Spofforth - bur 2 Apr 1840 Leeds) married Esther Taylor

Also any other info on the Taylor/Jackson families would be welcome plus any extra info on the oldest Richard Bickerdike (if it exists!)

Cheers in advance

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Thackray in Rotherham, 18th century

Hi

Yes, i know about the death of thomas and have found articles in newspapers at the time. It has also been covered in a book called "Round and About Grenoside".

I only have Thomas' father from an IGI entry that may be the christening of Thomas in Wortley. Although it does state his father as Thomas, I cannot be certain this is the correct entry. However, I am interested in knowing the evidence of Joseph's relationship to Thomas as it appears I had no siblings for Thomas.

I have a newspaper record of the murderers trial where a Joseph Parkin was a witness although I did not know what the relationship was. Joesph was with Thomas when he was shot.

If you want, I can send you both the transcipt I made plus photocopies of the original articles. If you could give me any more details regarding Joesph and documentation that links him to Thomas, I would be grateful.

Cheers

Mark
