Thank you both so much for your help.
I will look at this. I do have George's Will from 1602 and from what I've translated so far (very little) he seemed to leave some to his wife Annys and daughters, and some to members of the Marshall family which I believe were his daughter's in-laws.
I can see a name that looks like Johan Sooy of Godfrey and also an Edward Sooy of Godfrey (that is almost definitely wrong!.
George was a Maltster as well so it would make sense if John inherited that role perhaps.
In fact, I think this section of his will says something about John and employment but I haven't been able to translate it yet!
I guess if George only had daughters, he had little choice but to pass some of his things and job etc over to nephews.
And I guess he could indeed have been married before - thank you for that . I have no way to prove it sadly.
