Hi Robert

Brian has already kindly been in touch and I agree his research is very extensive and very helpful.

It's nice to find all these new relatives.

The Bowers do seem very interesting as do the Missens.

I have found two entries for a John Bowyer in IGI

John Bowyer baptised 2/3/1783 to Edward and Hannah Bowyer
John Bowyer baptised 19/9/1785 to Samuel and Elizabeth Pearman

both in Kedington.

Hi Robert

I've just found this thread searching for John Bowyer.  John Bowyer is my Great Great Great Grandfather with his daughter Emilia (b1821) being my Great Great Grandmother.

Yes that's them.   I can't find a death of Charles Smith either but I suspect it was around 1911 as she is a widower on that census but still a housekeeper.

Yes I've got that one thanks.   This family is a bit complicated!  Basically William Hines married his sister-in-law also called Mary Ann (the name of his first wife and Emily Elizabeth's mother) but not until 1912.  Her husband Charles Smith was his first wife's brother.  She is the 'housekeeper' in the census.  She is the mother of Alice and I suspect the other children.

It was the death certificate that triggered a new phase of researching her husband as it has this strange mention of Horace, especially after already finding a baptism record with an Emily Elizabeth and a Horace Ernest.

Emily died on the 2nd December 1931, she was 43.

Yes that's her on the census.  She went to live with her Uncle and Aunt after her mother died for a while.

Yes he is down as soldier on other baptisms of the children.

My theory is that Horace wasn't married to Emily Elizabeth but they lived together.  I suppose no questions would be asked as they were both called Wingell...

I can't find any death information for either of the male Wingells.

I should also mention that Thomas Henry had a brother Bertram Ernest and I wondered if this was Horace?  He would be a similar age b1889.
