Lanarkshire / Blantyre/East Kilbride Cemetry Lookup for Robert WALKER - 1804 to 1840
« on: Wednesday 18 November 09 18:18 GMT (UK)  »
This might be a bit of a long shot but does anyone know of (or can look up) any records for the parishes of Blantyre and East Kilbride for a Robert Walker who died between 1804 and 1841.  Outside chance it may be Bothwell parish!

OPRs show him being born 9 Nov 1804 and christened 10 Nov 1804 in East Kilbride but all the other children were registered in Blantyre parish.  However, he is not in the 1841 Census and there is a thought he may have died shortly after his birth.
Parents would have been James and Margaret.

Nothing matching his death appears in the OPRs that I can find but I wondered if there were any non OPR records for these parishes that may show up such a death or the burial?

Thanks
Dave

Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / Re: Blaenavon Parish Burial - Henry George Milsom

Hi Cardiff,

No I've got that info.  What I really need is to see if the parish death/burial record has an indication on the parents names or the child's place of birth which would then tie it all up nicely (well or prove I'm completely wrong!)

Sorry, missed that!

He was born 1865 in Oldland Comman, Gloucestershire so he was 8 years old.  That's another reason I think he may be the correct one as the burial transcript says it was an 8 year old being buried.

Antrim Completed Look up Requests / Samuel White - Ballycastle 1868
« on: Tuesday 10 February 09 01:30 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find the birth of Samuel White in (or around) Ramoan Parish, Ballycastle.  On his Royal Marines record he states his DoB as 11 Mar 1868.  However, I cannot find it anywhere I've looked.

I've found his brother (Robert 1866) and sister Jane (1870) but not Samuel.

  • I've tried the LDS IGI
  • The new pilot LDS site
  • Emerald Isle
  • Google searches

His father is also Samuel White and his mother is Mary Anne Mitchell (or Maryanne Mitchell - I've found both).  These names are based on his death certificate and Robert/Jane's birth entries and another.

I've also tried to find the marriage of his parents - no luck.

Any assistance in identifying Samuel's birth record or the parents through the parish records or suggestions of other places to try would be appreciated.

If anyone is visiting the GRO/PRO offices and could take a look I would be very grateful.

I'm happy to order a certificate via GRONI but would like to know I have correct details first!  There is always a chance he's faked his DoB to join up under age.

Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / Blaenavon Parish Burial - Henry George Milsom

I'm trying to find out details about the burial of Henry George Milsom in Blaenavon.  From burial transcripts I know the burial was 20 Aug 1873 but no family details.

I'm trying to find out if he's the son of William and Dinah Milsom from Gloucestershire.  The reason I suspect he is, is that William's brother Francis Milsom moved to the area shortly before then.

I'm working on the hypothesis that William/Dinah/Henry were visiting at the time of his death.  I've found the parents in the 1881 Census (in Birmingham) but no record of Henry George and this is the only birth.

I'm hoping something might be in the parish records to help.

RosemaryJoan,

On the National Archives Documents Online service http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/ you can search for Royal Marine service records as well as a number of other documents.

Click on the Browse button on the left and you get a full list of currently available documents.  Some are free and some cost (£3.50 for the Marines records).

The one's I had I found on the local archives service web site for the area.  It gave some information on the nature of the offences (same person).

Following an email to the archives service I was able to get copies of the records (including a third offence I hadn't known about) showing all the dates, who tried the case and who the offence was committed against.

http://blacksheepancestors.com/uk/prisons.shtml shows some information and has Canterbury listed but not Rochester.

http://vcp.e2bn.org/ Is an interesting site about Victorian prisons but only goes to 1898 (might help someone!)

Thanks to both of you.

I had spotted the Samuel White 1907 but not knowing the area it was difficult to tie it all up.  Knowing Ramone is probably Ramoan Parish in Ballycastle does make things tie up more.

Does anyone know if their are any records for that parish (Presbyterian I think) as I would still like to identify the parents of Samuel White b. 1868 and their marriage? (Why do people reuse so many names!)

I have looked at the Presbyterian Historical Society website which shows Marriages: 1863-92, but this might not be in range and doesn't include births/baptisms.
