Can I ask where you got her parent"s names and the townlands mentioned in the link ?
Tara
Tara, The details of her parents came from the marriage certificate in Australia. Again the place name of Mary Collins birth is Wedloe, kilkenny, the other is her parents - Patrick Collins and Mary Walsh. I knew her date of birth to be the 20th of March from an obituary, so I have been working on those things to narrow it down over the last couple of years but still trying to make sense of Wedloe. I had almost just come to the point that because she could not read or write the word Wedloe has been described as of Wicklow, and just been lost in translation for the last 123 years. Its the closest thing i could come up with.

Kilkenny / Help with Place Name in Kilkenny???
« on: Sunday 18 October 15 03:11 BST (UK)  »
Hello, this is a birth record taken from my 3x Great Grandfather born in Brisbane,Australia 1892. mother listed as Mary Collins, born in Wedloe,Kilkenny,Ireland. I am needing help with is or was there such a place as Wedloe in Kilkenny? Or is it meant to be Wicklow?? And this has just been lost in translation? From my searching I believe Mary Collins to be born in Mullinavat,Kilkenny, but not sure where this Wedloe comes into it. thanks in advance

One other thought, it may well be, that Arthur was NOT born in Middlesex, but spent a large proportion of his youth in the area, and so thought that was where he came from, I have instances in my own Family Tree!

Yes, I am more inclined to think that my Nicholls and Tonkin connections lays in Devon as there are a tonne of them and a lot of them were seafarers..Now I think that I can rule out Staffs, I shall look there I think, again thanks so much.

So I guess back to the drawing board of looking for Elizabeth Tonkin & Joseph Nicholls - Boiler Maker in Middlesex at the time of Arthur's birth 1861..grrr! thanks for your investigating, sometimes it is best to have a second pair of eyes after you have been looking for over a year.. Oh and finding out where Arthur may have done his engineers apprenticeship?

Yes, I have gone down that avenue - from what I can see Ann Braman is a visitor from Smithwick,Staffordshire, I have looked for her in Smithwick in the 1851 census and a marriage for her aswell. I guess I was trying to see if Arthur had done an apprenticeship it might lead me to more information regarding his family as I have nothing, also looking at his sibling Joseph William seems to come up trumps.. The names are all there as Arthur when he came to Australia and married named his children Sarah Jane,John, Joseph and Arthur and the names have carried on down the generations.

Yes i had the very same issue..And finding a Tonkin family in Bilston,Staffs.. The Tonkins seem quite prominent in the Devon/Cornwall area, aswell as the Nicholls family but the census says Liverpool as the birth for Joseph..it really has me stumped!
