Hi Jenn,
I have just looked at the 1939 Register that was taken on the eve of world war two. Gilbert was born on 15/02/1912. He was living at 4 Wellington Road Tipton along with Elizabeth M who was born on 13/02/1916. Gilbert was a Machine Tool Fitter at a factory called Erectool (this is a translation of the company name.) Gilbert was also an Air Raid Patrol warden in the works defence.
Elizabeth was a car lamp assembler.

Hi Jenn,
Your Father would be my second cousin and you would be my second cousin once removed!

On the Pountney paternal side I can go back as far as 1816. On the Pountney Maternal side I can go back as far as 1612.

We have quite a history and as I have researched not only the direct line but the brothers and sisters there is a lot of information. Some history is sad some funny and some colourful.

I am Jane and I was born in Wolverhampton in 1954 an only child with three children of my own, four Grandchildren and (expecting another one )and two Great Grandchildren.

Hi Jenn, I come from the Pountney side of the family so have gone quite far back on that line. We would actually share the line from Mary Ann Pountney who married William Harold Eades in 1907.
Mary Ann also known as Polly was the sister of my Grandfather John Pountney.
Mary Ann and William had four children Harold, Lilly May, Doris and Gilbert.
Mary Ann ran the Conservative club in Union Street her daughter Lilly carried on after Mary Ann died. Then Doris took over the club after her sister Lilly.
Mary Ann passed away on the 23rd August 1956 at 64 Union Street which was the Conservative club.
My Aunt told me that she very often went to the club and remembered the stuffed animals that were displayed in the club.
Sadly I have recently heard that the club is to close and be sold.
I am not sure if this information is of any help but if you do want any information on the Pountney side I am happy to share it with you.

Hi Sue,
First of all I apologise William was my Great Great Grandfather. (Missed a great out!)
William Beddall born 1821 in Netherton and died 1/10/1903
Married 02/06/1845 Dudley to Phebe Bird born 1827 in Netherton and died 1894.
They had 9 children. I descend from Benjamin born 31/03/1869. So your Great Great Grandfather would have been one of Benjamins brothers.

I have Williams Marriage and death certificate along with all the census records 1841 to 1901
I have studied the Beddalls of Netherton and have quite a bit of information but I am not sure how to get the info to you?

Hi Sue,
I was doing a search and found your plea for help on William Beddall, As I was not logged on at the time when I did log on I could not find the message.
Anyway William Beddall was my Great Grandfather and I have quite a bit of information if you would like it.

Hi BigSlick,
Thanks for the info. I know that Mary Ann and Harry were not running the club until after 1911. I have them living at 16 Waterloo St East Tipton. I do not Know when they took over but they ran it for a long time. One family member said it was over 50 years.
There was also a Grocers shop ran by Mary Ann's sister in law Rosa (Pountney nee Wagstaffe.) in Union Street.
Other members of the Pountney family lived in Lockside which was at the bottom of Union Street and worked on the canals.

Thanks I am glad I am not the only one!
I was quite surprised with the 1911 duplication as it was in different parts of the country and I did think by 1911 they would have been more accurate??

Has anyone found the same person listed on census records twice?
It has happened twice with my research. The first was the 1891 when the person was listed on a boat and also at their home address.
Then I have found the same thing again on the 1911 census with a different ancestor.
They are both correct entries as other people listed match with other members of the families. I know they could not read or write so perhaps if it had been completed by the enumerator they had misunderstood the questions???

Hi everyone,
This is the first time I have used a chat site so bear with me.
I am interested in finding out about the history of the Conservative Club in Union Street Tipton. My Grandfathers Sister ran it for many years followed by her two daughters and I am interested if anyone knows anything about it?
Her name was Mary Ann Eades (aka Polly) she was married to a William Harold Eades (aka Harry). Her daughters were Lilly and Doris.
