Gloucestershire / Re: Bentley Hall Staffs vs Chaceley Hall (Hole) Gloucestershire
« on: Sunday 07 October 18 11:21 BST (UK)  »
I wish to correct this post as follows: My Great x3 Grandfather Edward Lane (1788-1857) born Chaceley son of William Lane (1753-?) and Sara - nee Buckle: also Grandson of Joseph Lane (1725-1786) and Mary Stock I believe both Joseph Lane and William Lane resided at Chaceley Hole (Hall) Chaceley at different times. This information from "Chaceley Worcestershire Births, Marriages and Deaths" transcribed by William Good - williamr@bigbond.com  The original Chaceley Hall Farm was sold in 1997 but your close family relations still farm near by.  I did contact them but they have never replied. I have a copy of The Last Will and Testament by Joseph Beale Lane which appears to confirm the above. Basically I wish to establish who resided at Chaceley Hall (Hole) Farm from as far back as possible up to say 1700 to confirm my ancestry line and determine if they are indeed related to Mistress Jane Lane and her brother Col John Lane.  Can you please help me at all?

Northumberland / Roger Marshall 1830-1892 & Rebecca Marshall/Bell Of Northumberland
« on: Thursday 12 October 17 18:05 BST (UK)  »
I hope this is posting is acceptable.  I have the whereabouts of Roger Marshall's Headstone originally mounted inside a church 1892 which has since been sold as a private residence. The headstone has been removed and placed nearby in a safe place with a member of the clergy. It should ideally be in the hands of the Bell Marshall Family or Holloway family from Stroud Gloucestershire. Rogers son Mark Bell Bell-Marshall 1853-1914 married into the Holloway family wholesale clothiers and is buried in Stroud. This is a picture of the headstone. Please send me a PM if this post relates to you. Thank you

Hi, Sorry I cannot believe I omitted the name of my Great x3 Grandfather which is Edward Lane.

It may not have been Tewkesbury Road.

I now believe he was a Butcher, Baker, Grocer and Shopkeeper in Cheltenham between 1925 and 1950.
Thank you for your continued interest.

Try asking the question in the "Days Gone By In Cheltenham" group on Facebook. There are some very helpful people there who have access to old trade directories and like a genealogical challenge.

Thank you for your suggestion, I will follow it up.

Sorry to have confused you!  Thanks for your prompt reply. I lost track of Henry from 1841 when he was as you say 13 and residing with his parents.  He did not move with his parents after 1841 so presumably stayed in Cheltenham. I was thinking that if his father had not attended the wedding this would not help my search. But of course if he had died before Henry's wedding he would be shown as Edward Lane deceased. I would guess Henry probably married 1848> being of age.

Hello Cheltenham, I have all but completed my family history from 1700 with one exception that is my Great Uncle named above. He was born in Cheltenham 1828 and Christened there on 6th July 1828. In 1841 he was residing at Waterloo Road Cheltenham with his parents Edward and Mary Maria Lane and siblings.  I do not know for sure if he married and I cannot locate a register of any marriage where his father is shown to be Edward Lane a Grocer/Butcher/Baker or Shopkeeper. The timeline is 1841 to 1848> at which Edward and Mary Maria moved from Cheltenham.  I would be most grateful for any help you can offer. I would prefer a PM if possible.
