Donegal / Brittons From Donaghmore
« on: Thursday 07 February 19 19:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone help me find any Brittons who came from Donaghmore, namely Robert, Margaret, children of Robert & Dorcas Hill. Robert jnr. married Elizabeth Porter and had a son named George circa 1813 possibly in Donaghmore.

I've tried looking on familysearch, and Ancestry but haven't found anything.

The family were presbyterian.

Donegal / Margaret Britton/Bratton - Born in Donaghmore, Raphoe c. 1788

Hi,

I'm looking for info on my 3 x gg aunt Margaret Britton/Bratton, (b.c. 1788) who came from Donaghmore in Raphoe. I know her family were presbyterian, so was wondering which church would her family have attended. Would there be any parish records for b.d.m's for the late 1780-90's onwards ?

I can't seem to find any info the family online at the usual sites, familysearch, etc.

Donegal / Robert Britton - Where in Donegal Did He Come From ?
« on: Thursday 10 January 19 12:49 GMT (UK)  »

Hi,

I have just discovered that my 3 x gg grandfather Robert Britton came from Donegal, circa 1793 ish.
I know he was married to Elizabeth Porter (1st wife) in Ireland and 2nd wife Agnes McMillan in Paisley, Scotland in 1830. His children with Elizabeth were George b.c. 1808, (not sure if natural son) Robert b.c. 1822, Jane, b. 1823 (my 2 x g grandmother) & John b. 1829 all born in Paisley, bar George.
He was a hand loom weaver by trade, and was presbyterian he died in 1859.

His parents were Robert Britton & Dorcas ? Hill.

Can anyone help me with trying to locate where in Donegal he came from ?

Thanks,

Daryl

Hi,

As far as I know David's wife Mary died in Doune, Kilmadock in 1856. According to the 1851 census James was living with his parents and siblings at Cross Keys, Doune. His occupation aged 12 was a cotton spinner.

His address in 1861 on his father's death cert. states Holmhead St. Glasgow, but I can't find anything for him.

Hi,

I'm trying to find my 3 x great uncle James Gillespie b. 27 Oct 1838 in Fort William, Argyll, to David Gillespie & Mary McMillan. According to his father David's death cert, James was living at 344 Holmhead St, Glasgow in March 1861.

I've tried to find him in the census, but can't seem to locate him.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks,

Daryl

Hi Hallmark,

Thanks for the link to irish genealogy.ie but I've already looked at these possible deaths for Samuel, and none of them fitted age wise. I already have a death cert for 1866 for a Samuel in Belfast which I'll look into.

Regards,

Daryl

Hi James,

Thanks for getting back to me about the McKnights.

The info you have, is pretty much what I have for him too. The only difference is for Mary McMeekin, as I have a Mary or Nancy Gingles, as her mother. She died on 1 Jun 1880 in Ballymartin, Templepatrick.(details for her maiden name came from 1841/1851 irish census abstracts). I have Robert dying on 12 Apr 1886 also in Ballymartin.

I'm related through David John McKnight, through his wife Elizabeth Haire, her father's sister Sarah Lavinia Haire was married to my 3 x great uncle David Tedford. I'm trying to research the McKnight's as I've found a cousin through DNA that is also a McKnight (from Newtonards) but can't find a connection yet, it's so frustrating.

I've narrowed down Samuel's death to 1865-1872, there is a death for a Samuel in 1866 in the Belfast workhouse so I was going to look up the records for him there to see if his last known address matches their records.

If your interested I could send you an invite to look at my tree on Ancestry, where you could check out what I have for your family ?

If you pm me your email I'll send you a link.

Regards,

Daryl

Hi,

I'm currently researching this particular family in Belfast. I am related through David McKnight who was married to Elizabeth Evans. My connection is through Mary McMeekin, David's mother.
Can you tell me what happened to David's father Samuel ? I'm trying to find out when he died, I think it was between 1865 & 1872 when his son David married.

I'd love to know more about them.

Regards,

Daryl
