Armed Forces / Re: Surgeon Major and Household Cavalry....

Thank you for your help Shaun.
I have also come across the dentist from Bridgwater and his sons were William Herbert and Sidney.
I will just have to hope I find William or Clifford, as more records become available.

Thank you for your reply Carole. I did suspect that may be the case for Clifford, although I hoped it would be different for his father.

Hi Carole. I cannot find a death for Clifford I'm afraid.
I do know that by 1944, he was not with his wife but as she changed her name by deed poll at this time, I wonder if there was some animosity between them.

Armed Forces / Surgeon Major and Household Cavalry....

I am struggling to locate a father and son, and wondered if I could find out more about them through their military connections.

The father was Surgeon Major William Herbert Phillips of the R.A.M.C.
I do not know anything about him apart from that he was deceased in 1940.

His son was Clifford Harold Phillips and he was a member of the Household Cavalry who was Trooper 305332 stationed at Hyde Park Barracks in November 1940, when he married.
His marriage certificate gave his age as 21 years.
I cannot find any information on these people, either on BMDs or census records.
Does anyone know if I can find more about these men from their military records?

Hi. Thank you Kay but the death you found is not connected.
This lady was Lilian Annie Ruth Durham (nee Joy) who married Eric Charles Monk.

Kent / Lilian Freda Wilmot
« on: Sunday 23 July 23 15:45 BST (UK)  »
Lilian Freda Wilmot was born 1 August 1915, in Gateshead.
By 1939 she is living in Ida Cottages, Northfleet, Kent with her family and in 1940 she married  Clifford H Phillips in the registration district of Westminster, Middlesex.

On the 27 September 1944, Lilian now living at 120 Tachbrook Street, SW1, posted
a notice stating that after 21 days she will be changing her surname to MONK.

I cannot find answers to the following:
Why did she change her name?
Did she then marry again?
When did she die?
In fact I can find no details of Lilian after 1944.
Can anyone please help?
 :)

Armed Forces / Re: Kings' regulation (ll) Having been irregularly enlisted.

Thank you both for your links.
I cannot find anything that stands out. Strangely enough two of his brothers lied about their age when they enlisted, and it was never picked up.
He was a labourer, and his medical record was good.
Guess the only way I will know, will be if I can find and view a report about his enlistment.

Can anyone tell me what would be the cause of someone being 'irregularly enlisted' in the army?
