Kathmb,

My tree back to John and Catherine goes something like this I think;

Gparents            John Frederick Thompson=Edna Gibson
Ggparents          Robert Thompson=Mary Hannah Charlton
Gggparents        George Frederick Agna Charlton=Mary Blenkinsop
Ggggparents      George Charlton=Catherine Cowie

The Thompsons go back to Middleton in Teesdale as far back as I can trace and the family had strong links with Shildon, Cockfield, Bishop Auckland.

Hopefully this connects correctly with yours.

Hello folks,

I've been following up my maternal side.

A tree on Ancestry owned by whrutherford1 links into mine via a marriage between John Cowie and Agness McBryan. Their daughter Catherine (Born France 1817) married a George Charlton (my mother's link)

I don't do Ancestry other than free through the local library, I'm wondering if whrutherford1 uses Roots Chat too?

Thanks

What a character!
He had another brush with the law in the 1870's - he got caught up in some gun deals with the Fenian Brotherhood - puts that into a new perspective!

Need to find which gaol he did his bird in!

I have to say however once he married the nonsense seemed to stop.

Thanks again folks.

Boo,

The name is James Clark (Co Cavan), Copper smelter, Staithe Cottages, Willington Quay, Circa 1863.

From what we know, this was his first residence on Tyneside, moving to 17, Ravensworth Street, Willington Quay after this.

By Northumberland Archives I'm assuming that's Woodhorn??

Thanks.

Boo,

The original article came from London Gazette for 31 March 1863 (pp1859-1860).

Folks,

I'm trying to follow up on a search for papers relating to a bankruptcy case.

The info I have only mentions the initial hearing held in the Royal Arcade (Now Swan House roundabout). There was mention of a review hearing to be held at a future date, but I've been unable to find a source for the court papers or an outcome etc.

I tried Newcastle Libraries without success but did get some historical background on Richard Grainger's Royal Arcade - nice book called "A City of Palaces".

Any suggestions for where I might look?

Thanks,

Irish.

Ingrid,

Great to hear from you! I don't know how much you may know of the Clark family (there's lots and it's huge) but between my cousin Robert and myself we have got back to the late 1700s in Ireland.

Uncle Willie has proven to be a bit of a mystery until now, so any information you have is most welcome. Uncle Willie's brother (my GF) still has three daughters (my aunts) still alive the eldest Nora is 95 and going strong.

Lovely to hear from you, if you want to contact me again please don't hesitate PM me if you like. I still live in the North East so I can help with most queries.

Folks,

It seems I may have almost found the Race Farmers, one in Butterknowle near Staindrop and the other in Whorlton a bit further west. Originally poultry farmers, it seems they are still in the farming business.

Thanks again for everyone's input.

Irish.
