Pembrokeshire / Re: Black Parish

Hi

I understand that Black Parish refers to an order of black monks which used to be in the parish. I believe they were located near Cwmcerwyn.

The colour black related to their habits (Cloaks).

Hi
I have an Idris Howells on my family tree. Could it be the same one?
I have little information about him but "my" Idris's parents were Howell Howells (b. abt 1862) and Annie Ray (b. abt 1870).
In 1911 his father, Howell, was a headmaster at an elementary school and was living in Treorchy.
I do have information going further back - all the way to Idris's grandfather Howell Howell (b. abt 1833 in Llanddewi Velfrey, Pembs).
I am trying to trace forwards from this Howell's wife who was Esther John (b. abt 1827 at Llanllwch - by Carmarthen). Her sister was my direct ancestor.
Please PM me if you think there may be a link.

Carmarthenshire Completed Requests / Re: Hengoed family name
« on: Saturday 18 June 11 13:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi
The Hengoed name is derived from Ungoed which is a family name from the Pembrey/Kidwelly area.
Your Richard Hengoed b.1799 has known ancestry going back to a John Ungoed b. abt 1660. He seems likely to have been from Pembrey.
Richard Hengoed/Ungoed married Rachel Clarke on 19th March, 1830, at Llannon Church, Carms.
Their only child William was born in abt 1841 and became a clergyman, living in Llanrhidian parish on the Gower peninsula, near Swansea. He was not married.
Please PM me if you would like more info on the Ungoed family.

Hi

Just browsing through the site in case there's something interesting which I may have previously missed!

I have Ungoed ancestry. I would be interested to swap info and to see where you fit in to the tree. Perhaps you would like to email me on (*)

Hi

I thought that you may be the lady I was in touch with a while ago. Researching the same people i.e. Powell, Howell, Ungoed and USA.

I put you in touch with Kris W. Yes I have been researching the Ungoed tree.

Perhaps you would be willing to get in touch directly?

Hi

How are you?

Ann Ungoed was born 1st Jan 1841, Rhymney, Mon. Her father was John Ungoed  born abt 1803 at Llannon near Llanelli.

John was one of 7 children born to William Ungoed and his wife Mary (nee Edward). They farmed at Penderrywell farm, Llannon.

Pembrokeshire / Re: Edgeley family

Looking for any descendants of the Edgeley family - boiler makers, engineers in 1880-1900s. They lived in Neyland and Llanstadwell.

Hi

A member of my family married into the Edgeley family. I have some recent reconnections with them and some info on other branches.

Carmarthenshire / Re: Anna Hughes - where on earth were you?

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, this particular Hannah is her sister in law (married to her brother David Hughes). ???

Hi

I too have Hughes ancestors from Trelech. It is difficult to be sure which of the two families is which! Both families from Trelech parish were headed by John Hughes. Both John Hughes's had sons called David who were of similar age!

I have tried to sort out this problem and I purchased the marriage certificate (dated 1st May 1851) for David Hughes (later at Velindre) and his wife Hannah (nee Evans). It shows his father was John Hughes (labourer). My assumption has been that if David's father was John Hughes (shoemaker) then this skill/trade would be recorded instead on the marriage certificate under father's occupation.

What do you think?

I used to have contact with the descendants of David Hughes, Velindre, but not now. Some of his descendants used to live next door to my Gt Gt Grandparents at Dinas, Trelech.

This isn't the first time that there has been confusion about these two David Hughes's. It would be good to have more certainty about them.
