Thanks Lisa
I found her.
Remarried to a widower John Tremblett and she died in 1935.
Married between 1928 &1935
Currently trying to find their marriage and have contacted the Catholic Diocese in St Johns. As it seems she converted probably to marry.

Thanks Sandra
I'll keep chipping away at her.

Canada Lookup Request / ANNIE COCARILL nee SPURRELL b. circa 1887 Trinity NFLD
« on: Sunday 14 January 24 19:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
So, digging for early records in Newfoundland is like looking for Protestant records in Ireland!
It is a slog and I could use some help!
I have Annie Spurrell marrying George Cocarill in St. John's Newfoundland in 1908.
No parents listed so I have no idea who Annie's family was (Brick wall #1).
Then George & Annie and their growing family show up on the 1921 Census still in St. John's but under the surname COCHRANE.
Why the name change I have no idea - it is not a slip of the census taker as their grandchildren carry that surname into today (Mystery #1).
Anyway George Cocarill/Cochrane dies in 1928 and his children show up on the 1935 with no mother Annie.
I have been unable to find Annie after his death as a Spurrell or Cocarill/Cochrane (Brick wall #2).
Not sure if any sleuth can pick up something on Annie that I have not been able to find?
Appreciate the help

Thank you cath151
These tidbits are helpful...from my research the FRENCH family, covering over two centuries, have had a lot of issues with Drunk and Disorderly across many professions  ::)

There is a George Austin French death in 1867 Billericay.  Aged 36

Can't see an 1851/1861 entry in Essex in the Billericay RD

Thank you CaroleW
It must be him it certainly makes the most sense.
I see it now at FreeBMD but when I used his name it did not come up the first try
Wonder why Billericay of all places...not near the sea

Hi All
So, I have George Austen French born 1828 Rye - father George French, mother SarahTiltman.
George shows up with his Mom Sarah and his sister Sarah on the 1841 in Rye - Dad George is a marnier/grocer but not on the 1841 census with them so maybe he was at sea?
Then on the 1851 census Mom Sarah is on her own in Rye - I think her daughter Sarah died and her husband George and son George Austen are now both Mariners and have Masters certificates on Ancestry - guess they were at sea?
Then on the 1861 census George Austen French, Dad George and Mom Sarah are enumerated on George Austen's boat.
That is it....
I cannot find mention of George Austen French after the 1861 census
I cannot find a marriage for him or a death for him either.
Using FreeBMD I believe his father George died in 1877 in Rye but this is just speculation.
Can anybody pick up the trail of this guy????
I would appreciate the hand up :)

Thanks ShaunJ
I appreciate the hand, I have all this info...
It would be too convoluted to go down the rabbit hole here...under this post.
Suffice to say that I do think the John French in Fleetwood is the son of that John French and Lydia who marry in 1792 in Maidstone and baptised him in Cranbrook 1792....
This couple (John & Lydia French) go on to have children baptised in Iden (Rye) and Winchelsea (Rye)
I do not think he is the John French who marries Jane Thomas
I think he is the John French who marries Martha Kemp in 1813 in Rye....
I have lots of little pieces and some flimsy proof but no BIG smoking gun YET :-\

Thank you BumbleB and ShaunJ
I am waiting for his death certificate PDF from the GRO - should get it Friday so thank you for the death date.
I had hoped, knowing it was a longshot, that this John had a Will and if so, it would name members of his family  :-\
As I have a hunch and think he might be linked to my French family from Rye Sussex.
But every avenue I try comes up empty.
I found him in the 1851 and 1861 (boarder... not with anybody tangible to the French family in Rye).
Not sure that the Death certificate will give up anything either but maybe it will say "widow of Martha French" and bingo!

HI all
Wondering if there is an online resource that can be searched for Wills 1869?

Specifically I am looking for a Will for John French whose death was registered in Fylde Lancashire in the 2nd quarter (Ap, May, June).  He was approximately 77 at the time of his death.

Any help or thoughts are appreciated
