Hi Becky
Thanks for your reply, do you have an Ancestry account? If so I will contact you on there and we can share information on our Seed family connection.

I've attached copies of two cards that were found, but I cannot make head nor tail of them.
Any ideas what these would have been for?

I've attached a copy of his Attestation Paper if it is any help.
The 11th Btn is handwritten in the top right hand corner.

Did the Battalion only serve between 1941 and 1942 then?
Apparently he worked on the ack-ack guns in Belfast, but I find it strange that a 33 year old able-bodied man was put into the Home Defence which I thought were for more elderly men and less able bodied.
Are there any websites I could research this on and where would I find details of his service records and army number. Would he have been eligible for a medal?

I think the one listed at 86 Lower Camden Street with Maurice as the manager must be the one as my father-in-law said that his dad used to work in cinemas and theatres doing the seats and curtains for shows.

Thanks to "shanew147" and "taramcdsmall" for your quick and informative replies.
This search has started because my wife has asked me to find out some information on her Grandfather (who she never met) but mostly for my father-in-law who is now in his 78th year, not in good health and would like some information on his father who disappeared in 1944 when he was 10.
I have ordered his birth certificate from the information received, but is there any way of tracing his death as it highly unlikely he is still alive after 105 years.
Also I would like to find out his whereabouts in the years since 1944 (a long shot I know), I know that prior to signing up to the 11th Battalion Rifle Brigade (who were apparently Home Defence) in 1941, he was an Upholsterer and worked at Elliman's Upholsters on Camden Street, Dublin.
We have wanted to find this information for years, but until my father-in-law found an old wallet in a box in the loft with his Attestation Papers which gave us a date of birth and an address in Dublin, we had nothing to work on.
Sadly we have no photographs of him.
Once again, thank you.

I don't think it is a long shot at all. My father-in-law is called Walter Joseph Walsh and in the 1911 census he would have been 4.
Is there anyway I could find his parents marriage details or do I have to order a marriage certificate?

From what I can gather he married a Mae Buckley somewhere around 1930 as my father-in-law was born in 1934 and is the oldest child of three.
I assume he is the second one as my father-in-law's middle name is Joseph and I think it has J as his middle name on his army papers.

I am trying to find some information about my wife's Grandfather James Walsh who was born on 24/08/1907 in Dublin. All I have to go on are his Attestation papers which were dated 17/02/1941 and in them it states his address as 1 Wood Street, Dublin - his trade as Upholsterer trimmer and his parents (although not named) as Irish.
At the top of the Attestation  certificate it states Eire Recruit, so I would assume he had to go to Belfast to enlist and I believe he was a Territorial at the time but in which regiment I'm not sure.
Where would I find details of his birthplace and names of his parents?
All information gratefully received.
Brian Carter.
